PRO 106 Tech support needed please!!
I have a Pro 106 and had it cloned by RS (big mistake) anyway, I only listen to 3 banks 2,3 & 4 and those are they only ones that show up when scanning however when I look at when it's scanning (the bottom part) it keeps showing that it is also scanning bank 9. Went to bank 9 and it had NS on the top. I went through and deleted everything in that bank and it still is showing bank 9 when scanning and I think that is why many times I miss the begining of a call. How do I get rid of this. I could read this manual 20 times and still not understand what is saying. NO I don't have the software. Can anyone help before this thing gets flung out the window. There is nothing on bank 9 and when i go manually through my banks it goes 7,8,10. Nothing on that bank 9. Grrrrr. Thank you!!! Julie

When I first purchased my GRE PSR 500, the exact chassis of the Pro-106, I was very angry and frustrated. In order to operate your radio, you must first understand how to activate things inside.
It sounds like you may have owned an analog scanner in the past by your use of the word, "bank." In comparison to analog scanners in the past, you now own a fairly sophisticated radio that necessitates doing some reading. Depending on the location, RS is the last place I would go to clone or program a radio.
I was so angry when I first purchased my radio that I referred to it as a $500 paper weight. It takes time to understand what you're doing with this radio. You have to be patient. Otherwise, you can sell the radio & miss out on all of the fun. Please, give it some time.
Here is an easier to understand guide to the radio. I strongly suggest purchasing: a) a USB interface specific to your radio; b) programming software. I strongly recommend Win500 since it shows many different functions of the radio on one screen.
Finally, welcome to Radio Reference. This is the place you come for help. Forget RS. There is a wealth of information here in Forums.
I hope this helps you. Tonight is the night to monitor. If you know someone in your area with the same radio, it might be helpful to get together & clone. They might better demonstrate how to operate your radio. I can assure you, tonight is the best night of the year.
Easier to Read Pro-106/197/PSR500/600 Digital Scanner Manual
PS: While in scanning mode, press "9" and it should disappear from your screen. A dot should replace it. This is how you activate & deactivate "banks" or "scan lists" in your radio.

Is scanlist 9 flashing on and off, if so press the 9 key to turn off scanlist 9, If scanlist 9 stays solid then there is still something programed in scanlist 9.

When I hit 9 it does flash when the scanner is scanning, when I hit it again it goes away but still shows in the bottom part when it shows what bank (sorry, should I say object) it is scanning. Does that make sense?

I do understand the general part of this thing and have had it for quite a while, Paid $50 to have my scanner programed and had a problem so had to send to RS for repair and it came back w/o my $50 program. Whet to RS and cloned theirs. Called one RS and asked them if they sold police scanners (Just cuz I wanted to go in and clone mine but some don't have them at the store), the kid told me "Oh no, you need permission from the police to buy one". Geez

Try hiting FUNC then 9 see if that works sounds to me you have scan list 19 open not 9 i may be wrong.

Maybe it's Scan List 19 instead of 9. The 106 has 20 Scan Lists (1-20). The top row list 1-10 and you toggle them on/off by pressing the keypad keys 1-0. The bottom row lists Scan Lists 11-20 and to toggle them on/off you first press the FUNC key and then press the 1-0 keys. In other words try pressing FUNC first and then press 9 and see if that toggles off that unwanted Scan Lists.
I hope this helps.
Edit: Looks like someone else beat me to it.

Push the program button to stop it on a talkgroup, then press the left or right arrow and go until you end up on the object that is NS, now you will see that it doesnt have a star next to any Scanlist put a star thing next to the Scanlist you want it in, you got to put it in a Scanlist one thats all. When your on the Talkgroup put it in a Scanlist that you want it in by pressing select, that will put the star by it and it wont be a NS Object anymore
LOVE AND BLESSINGS

Sorry for this mess. Here is the deal I deleted everything on that bank. so ns is gone as far as I know.
I don't have scan list 19 on. I have 2,3, & 4 and the rest dots on both lines. On the very bottom it says "banks 2" while its scanning so it goes...bank 2 bank 4 bank 3 bank 9 etc... (see I am not the only one calling these things banks).

If the scanner window shows "Bank 1 Bank 2" etc. then it is not a Pro-106.

Maybe some genius called the scanlists banks in the settings.
I have a Pro-106, once you get used to it you'll love the object memory.

If the OP named the scanlists "Bank 1" etc. That's exactly where they would show up.

This...or RadioShack doesn't understand the local system and recycled programming from older scanners, thus resulting in a TSYS called Bank 1, 2, etc.

I stand corrected. They could have done exactly that. Sorry I didn't think of that before posting.

Yes, that is what they did. He had it tagged as "bank" so with the old program I believe it said scan list on the bottom but he has it as banks. Listen this is the same store I bought this thing from. Nobody at RS knows anything about scanners. This is a Pro 106 Digital scanner. The reason I don't want this scan list 9 on is because I think that is why my audio is cuts off so many times at the begining of transmission. Its the only thing I can think of. Keep in mind the guy who did the program at RS is considered their EXPERT on scanners.

Pro 106
I do have a question. I finally gotten help from Radio Shack store on how to use the software to program my scanner. I have one county programmed in it. Now can I program another county into my pro 106? When I tried to program the other county from the software my firsan one county county gotten erased and replaced with the second county. Can someone Please tell if I can program more than one county.
Sincerely
Debbie

Also, in the menu there is no * next to the scan list 9. The only ones that have the * is the ones I listen to (2,3 & 4). Am I making sense now? (Note to self: Buy Uniden next time).

Before attempting to help, you should understand what you want to actually listen to. A good place to start off would be the Database. Once you have found that, feel free to provide the information here for farther help.
I believe you are running into a very inefficient memory management. With Object Oriented Scanning, you no longer need multiple banks to scan a single system like you had to do in the past. You just need a single TSYS with some TGRPs programmed for that system. I suspect the reason you miss transmissions is because the scanner likes to spend a second or two looking at each "Bank" needlessly when a single TSYS would be much more efficient. To be honest, I wouldn't trust any RS employee to do any programming for me due to their own lack of understanding of the technologies involved.
If you want to consider programming by hand, you should try looking at the Easier to Read manual above. You might want to first spend some time understanding what was cloned in the first place (PGM>Select with left/right for different scanlists and up/down for different objects in that scanlist>EDIT>CURR). From there, try to understand what objects are directed where, whether or not it is CONV or TGRP and what not. If it's a TGRP, see what TSYS it is associated with and compare the TSYS to see if they are the same or completely different.
As for why you keep on seeing "Bank 9", it's definitely not a scanlist issue anymore, it's a TGRP in your list 2, 3, and/or 4 that's looking at a TSYS named Bank 9. Also, I hear that programming a Uniden is just as complicated as a GRE/RadioShack scanner.

Could you please move this to a different topic? You have done something called "hijacking" another person's thread. Please be respectful and create your own forum post asking for help.
Thanks!
