Pro 163 and PL Tones

My county here has just went to new radio systems, Half have gone to NexEDGE which I am aware can't be monitored, However, The other half has gone to Narrowband but changed PL tones and they've changed to PL tones that my RadioShack Pro 163 won't do and I need a specific PL tone. I need it to be able to do a 105.2 PL tone (Kenwood Only) if at all possible, Is there a Firmware upgrade etc. that will change that? Thanks!

I don't believe you can, however it should be an easy fix. Assuming no one else around you uses the same frequency, you should be able to edit the frequency and remove the PL tone altogether. An abnormal PL tone isn't going to stop you from listening to a frequency.

You don't need to put a PL tone in your scanner to receive a narrowband station, or any station..

Are you sure it's not 107.2? Kenwood Quiet Talk (QT) uses standard CTCSS tones, I've never seen a 105.2 tone published anywhere.

I see that Oak Grove Heights FD has a 107.2 PL on their 154.995 dispatch frequency. I think you might want to double check your info. In any case, like Spitfire said, you can disable the PL altogether and still hear everything.
