Speed up scan process on Pro-18
Is there any way to speed the scan up on a Pro-18 ?? When my other digital receives one frequency it takes a few seconds or more for the Pro-18 to get the same conversation...

Scan fewer things. Sorry but that's the only possible answer I know of.

Are you able to adjust the hold time on the PSR-800? I removed the hold times on my BCD396XT to make it scan faster.

Moved this and your other thread to the RS forum. Please choose the correct forum when posting. Neither thread has anything to do with scanner programming software. Thanks..

So far so good, had to erase the whole scanner and refresh it with updated frequencies, and they work, thanks for the suggestion however. Also I use a telescopic BNC ant for it in the house, as well as an outside base ant.

If I'm not mistaken, the hold time on a Uniden is not the same thing as a delay time. The hold time is how long a scanner checks the control channel of a trunking system, looking for transmissions on talkgroups you specify during programming, before scanning other systems. A delay time is how long the scanner stays on a particular frequency or talkgroup after a transmission ends, waiting for a reply. So hold time can keep the scanner from quickly moving on to scan other systems even when nobody is talking on the current system being scanned, whereas "delay" only comes into play after you hear somebody talking. The equivalent of the hold time on a Radio Shack PRO-106 or PRO-197 is called "dwell" time. However, I haven't found where the PRO-18 would allow me to set the dwell time. The default dwell time on the PRO-106 and PRO-197 is 0, so if the PRO-18 uses that same default setting, changing it won't help your situation.

You are right on the hold-I use 0, does fine. Delay--10 seconds. I cant tell how fast the pro 106 scans. The dwell time is for trunks-I love it.Great hardware

OK, didn't realize the two were different, but got my delay on 0, guess I have to figure the dwell as well or maybe labeled different.

You have delay turned off. Just as soon as someone unkeys the mic your scanner is going to scan again and if you have alot of objects to scan it will take a minute to come back to that frequency. That would make it impossible to follow a conversation. I have mine set on 3 seconds. That seems to work good for me. If you feel like you have too many objects to scan, break them up into separate scan lists. That way you can turn some on or some off. You will be surprised at what you miss with two scanners scanning the same things.
