Default Power Adapter for RadioShack Pro-2096

So my original adapter to my RadioShack Pro-2096 started to go bad on me. So I ordered a "after market" adapter online. I had the adapter for about 2 weeks. Now the "after market" adapter is going bad. I am now using my OEM adapter (I have to place the cable a certain way for the scanner to operate.).

Question: Where can I purchase a good quality adapter for the Pro-2096 without breaking the bank?

Note: Went to RadioShack last month and was told that they didn't sell any for that type of scanner. :-(

Are you sure it isn't the jack on the radio that's bad?

How can I find out if the jack is bad?

If you have a volt meter check the voltage of the adapter separately while twisting the plug. If you don't have a VM it will be pretty hard to test, but since you said moving the plug around fixes it, it's a good bet the jack is bad.

Hmm...I don't think I have a volt meter. Now on my OEM scanner, when I move the cable round near the plug itself it works.

Sounds to me more like you have a broken wire in the cable on the old one, if you can lay the cable a certain way and make it work. Do you do Ebay? Should be a adapters on there, or you can probably get a universal adjustable adapter at Radoshack or a big box store.

I went to RadioShack last month and was told that they didn't sell that type of adapter... So I just ordered one off of eBay.

So, are both adapters acting the same way? As in if you move the plug around they start working? If so, the odds of both of them breaking in the exact same way seems unlikely, which is why I leaned toward the jack.

I would bet you move the radio around or plug and unplug often or the plug got hit at some point, which broke it from the circuit board.

But, I could be wrong.

I don't believe the jack off the scanner broke. The OEM adapter may have a wire that is cut on the inside. When I place it a certain way, the scanner will power up. The after market adapter just went out on me. It makes a "hissing" noise when I connect it to an outlet.

Ok, well I tried. I would still suggest trying to get the adapter checked before throwing more money in more adapters.

Do you plug/unplug the adapter from the scanner often? Also, does the scanner sit so the plug gets hit or pushed on?

I appreciate the help! I did unplug and plug the scanner often. I am in the process of purchasing a portable scanner.

You could always invest in a volt meter and check the adapter yourself. A good way to start learning electronics!
