Default Pro 197 squelch issue on VHF Hi

For a while I have been having this small issue on my 197 that is driving me a little batty.

On VHF Hi Frequencies I have been noticing after a transmission (depends on signal strength) it sounds like the squelch will open and stay open for little over a second and has become rather annoying, the thing is on these freqs I have a PL tone set for RX. I've tried looking for a reverse tone burst setting in ARC500 but didn't see anything. Is there a solution to this problem are am I going to have to live with it?

This wouldn't be a frequency that You changed to NFM would it?
After My home town went NFM, I changed the transmission to NFM, and was that a mistake, it sounded like the squelch was stuck at the end of every transmission, so I changed it back to FM, and it fixed the problem.
Not sure if that is the problem your having.

Great info, thanks for posting! I had switched everything over to NFM and was having the same issue, except it was on the VHF low freqs that I receive. Your suggestion fixed it. Thanks again!

Thumbs up

My 197 has been doing the same thing, and set to NFM on vhf as well. Thanks for the tip!
We seem to learn new tricks all the time with these radios.

I wonder if their are separate internal squelch adjustments for FM vs NFM like in the BC780XLT that need to be tweaked?

mods.dk -> UNIDEN - BC-780XLT

There might be. In the ARC software and in the Win500 software there are tuning parameters for the scanner.

I think maybe part of the problem you are experiencing is that you may be in a high RF environment, although you may not realize it. I have to set some, not all, but some of my VHF objects with attenuator activated.
