Default Possible to manually reband a PRO-164?

I got a 164 that needs to be rebanded, can't find anyone locally who can, and I sure as heck can't justify 39.99 for a piece of wire, PLUS like around 20 for the dang software which I'll use once in a blue moon. Is there a way to manually reband the scanner? Pressing F+Trunk button, then F+3 I can select ''MULTI-TABLE' for 800MHz Motorola ch plan. Then after doing that, rpessing F+2 gets me Three ranges to set, all of them being:
Custom range x/3
Base: 406.00000
Offset: 380
Step: 25.00 KHz

Is there a way to set that up to be a 'rebanded' system for Cabarrus county?

You really should get the cable and the software, makes for quick and easy changes. But when you program a rebanded system you need to find out what table fits the system.

I'm sure someone in your area can help you, you might want to ask in your state forum.

Oh I see, that's for a UHF system, bah... Well I really just cannot afford to buy that cable, not justified for hte price, nor is it feasible when I may be looking at a new HF rig or a expensive repair to one.

You've got me wondering, did you look through all 3 of those links? You should probably find someone in your area to help you.

I did, yeah. I can't set the base freq. and such on the scanner to an 800 range, that thing I mentioned earlier is for the UHF trunking systems only between 400 and 500 mhz. Yeah, guess I'll have to find someone then.

No. You have to use a program and a cable.

The commands you quoted are used to setup 800MHz trunking, and you need to setup 400MHz UHF trunking. This issue is a pet peeve of mine as well, as the firmware author should have included the ability to edit these settings w/o requiring software.

The USB cable is more than just wire because of the USB to COM converter chip/etc included. If your computer has an old-fashioned COM port, you can use the older COM version cable which can be found used much cheaper. Since there are 3 programs you can use to do the programming, and each comes with a 30 day free trial, you have "free" options there to do the update yourself.

I can't imagine there is not someone in your area who could do this for you however. If you can't find them on this site, perhaps another such as CL.
