Default Pro 106 control software

Does anyone know of a program for download, (virtual controller) for the pro 106 that isn't a time demo?

Nope, the big 3 (ARC500, PSREdit500 and Win500) all have time limits on their demo versions.

Crack open that wallet and pay for what you use. It supports the developer, and shows your support.

Sorry, but you now own a fairly expensive piece of equipment, a digital scanner that needs special care in order to optimize performance.

Yes, you can self-flagellate by resorting to manual programming, but that would defeat the sophistication of the radio in question. Well, that is my personal opinion with a bit of sardonic wit.

Some are old school & prefer the manual method, but I don't.

Here is why.

My preferred choice, to me, is user-friendly in that you can visualize the trunking tables in one visual field, Win500. You can actually see the Trunking System with the associated Talk Groups below. This makes it easy to map. You can also readily see all of the conventional frequencies in one visual field.

With manual programming, you are restricted to a narrow little window, one line per function. To me, this is asking for mistakes to be made.

There are No free software to program the GRE/RadioShack scanners.

But if all you want to do is log, and record, than yes there is free software for that, it's called IDTracker III,
see link below.

IDTracker will control your scanner, but not program it.

There is a free virtual controller for the Pro-106/Pro197 & Psr500/Psr600

I don't have much experience with it, but it looks like it controls and logs, and it interfaces with your RR account for data.

I believe that's what you were asking for.

Select your Com port on the "setup" tab, click the start button on the "Scanner" tab (at the bottom of that window).

Those 2 settings got me going right away.

This assumes you have the correct cable with the correct drivers properly installed.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. On my copy, when I click the "Scanner" tab, there is a "Start" button there.... clear as day.

Even on the link I gave you above, that page clearly shows a screen shot of the "Scanner" tabbed window with the "Start" button at the bottom. (although it actually is in the "Stop" mode now because the program is running.

I just went to another computer and downloaded a new copy, and the "Start" button is there.

Called my neighbor down the street.... he has the Psr600.

He downloaded a copy while I was on the phone with him. He's using it right now, no problems.

Don't know what to tell you.

I might be wrong, but after comparing the two screen-shots in the earlier posts, in your screen-shot it seems that the application has not been expanded to full screen, because the white text box (to the left of the buttons) is cut-off by the lower border of the application, whereas the other screen-shot shows the proper lower edge of the text box. If possible, try to expand the lower border of the application so that the entire white text box is revealed, and maybe the Start button will display as well.

Hope this helps,

Have you tried the Remote Client for the PSR-500 (and its cousins the PSR-600, RS Pro-106, and RS Pro-197) --> Win500: PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197, PSR-310, PSR-410 Scanner Software for Data Management, Monitoring, and Control (center download link) <-- For those that want a customized interface, Don even posted his Remote Protocol for folks that "describes the packet formats exchanged by my Win500 application and PocketPC client app. It should provide sufficient information for someone "ordinarily skilled in the art" to create a client app for their desired platform." The link for this download is a bit down the page.

That said, full use may require Win-500, but you have 30 days to try it and see if it's worth using, but the $35 to register is pocket change considering it's for scanners in the $500 range. If it doesn't work out for you simply don't register and all it cost you was your time.

You almost make the "time demo" sound like a bad thing when it's not. It's much better than many commercial packages where you fork over big bucks and if it doesn't suit your purpose the company simply says "Sorry, but we've got your money and are going to keep it."
