Default Graduating from a PRO 163 to PRO 197

If I was finally able to program my analogue PRO 163 to get the talkgroups I needed etc, what hurdles do I face going up to the digital PRO 197 I want to purchase? Is the programming similar (P25 Massachusetts State police which just switched today) and NH State Police or is it a whole different ball game?

And also how about just programming regular analogue frequencies like my local police and fire into the PRO 197??

If there are links to this sorry to take up the forum, if you might be so kind to show me the links please if you don't want to "answer". Thank you.

You will enjoy the PRO-197, it is a good radio, hears well and has very good audio. There is a learning curve to program these but it isn't that bad once you get your feet wet.

Start here: Pro-197 software

Everybody has their favorite, mine is Win500 for both my 197 and 106 scanners.

i have pro 106 which is just the hand held verion of the pro 197 and i also use win500 software with my scannner and found programming easier with the pro 106 and win 500 together and it's pretty much straight forward in my opionion you might have to play around with it so you can get use to it if it is the way you want to go. and all you do is enter the freq and the system info in to the software or you pay for radio reference premium service you can just download the system and freq to the software and use the software to upload to the scanner. the link to the software is under my signature

Thank you for your replies. In Massachusetts here it's a bit trickier as of today as our SP went all digital.
