Default Pro 197 zip

I have a friend who is going to purchase this scanner. The sales person said all you have to do is enter your zip code and it will program everything you need. Is this true?

No, the 197 can't be done that way.
Sorry, but someone doesn't know what they are stating.

Was this sales person also a cell phone salesman at the local Radio Shack store?

You can do that with the Home Patrol.

Let me guess ... your friendly inexperienced radio shack salesperson told your friend that?

the sales critter was wrong. the RadioShack Pro-197 does not have this ability. he's probably thinking of the Uniden Home Patrol 1 (HP-1).

Why don't they just go ahead and change their name to "Everything But Radios" Shack or Cellphone Shack? How about "We are trying to compete with Best Buy" Shack?

95% of all they stock is cellphone related.

The pro197 has a bunch of preprogrammed stuff in it but it is so outdated it is useless. You do not enter a zip code to get them. I think maybe the pro107 may do that but not sure.
