What is the best software or freeware for this scanner

There's nothing current, unfortunately. The only package I know of that worked (in its time) was Scan Control . However with the release of Win8, I'm unsure whether this software will work on that system. AFAIK it's no longer supported.

Thumbs up Very good new software coming Pro-2052

Police Scanner Software - BlackBagSoftware

This expands your 1000 channels to 10,000.
IT also takes your pre programmed 6 band scan,and expands it to 23 preset bands to scan.
They list them...

OH, almost forgot... it cost a whopping $14.95 and the disk is shipped FREE

I did a review of their other software (for other scanners) a few years back - proceed with caution. I don't believe that software is being supported - but it looks like Scan Control has started back with support again
