Better yet write the program yourself from scratch. It won't take that long.

That is not a wise thing to say on this site: Now you are going to catch all kinds of Hell.
Find the money and buy the Key for the program. It is more than worth the investment.

If you have read past posts, you will see that wasn't a good idea to ask for a free ride. SWAT might be a good idea to show your error by buying the software and contribute to the forum. Nuf said.

Just out of curiosity, how much does the program actually cost?

It is a small price to pay as far as I am concerned for great software that saves you a lot of time programming your scanners. It is also a lot of fun to play with the Web Import feature. I make up tons of p.97 files playing with it.

Swat, I live in Canada and have Paid for both the Win 96 & Win 97 programs, which by the way, cost me more due to the currency exchange, but they are worth it.

I saw that bulge in your cheek...
And in regards to the response to that:

Very few scanners, indeed few radios of any kind, come with software to program them. (Ask anyone with a Motorola for example.) And finally, the price you paid for you Pro-97, even if you didn't buy it during a sale, is pretty much very little in the scheme of scanner things.

You can access the Database to find frequencies but if you want to use the Web Import feature you are going to need to make small donation to the site . $5 at least I think it is.

Swat, believe me it is well worth it to get the Win 97 program, programming cable, and make a donation to this great site that has made scanning such a great hobby for us all. Playing around withe Win 97, programming your scanner, backing up your settings, Making new .p97 files using the Web Import feature is a lot of fun.

The code is as follows: The trick is that you must manually enter the code by hand for it to function.

Look in your manual. Follow the re-initialization procedure. do this three times to clear the scanner. Sometimes you'll have to do it more to clear properly.

Turn the scanner off for at least 3 hours but not exceeding 9 hours. Look on the back of your scanner. A Serial number is listed. #1 Enter the serial number. #2 Then again the same serial number in reverse. Now unscrew the rear panel very carefully from your scanner and look at the imprinted vin number inside. Write this alpha numeric code down. Reassemble the scanner. #3 Now enter this number and #4 the same number in reverse. #5 enter your State code. This is simply the first 4 letters in your state. #6 Enter those same 4 letters again but in reverse order. #7 Enter your region code. Are you located North, South, East or West? North code is AWDVHUKL, South code is MHTFXSWR, East code is BFESCGYU and West code is MHTFDSAJ. Then enter the same in reverse order. #8 Now enter the patent number on your scanner. #9 Enter the same patent number now but in reverse. #10 Now enter the radio shack catalog number written on the back of your scanner. just the numbers no dash or letters. #11 Now enter the same in reverse. #12 Look on the back of your scanner. A frequency range is listed. Enter these numbers only in order. #13 Enter the same numbers in reverse order. #14 Look on the back of your scanner for the FCC ID. Enter this alphanumerically. #15 enter the same in reverse. #16 Now enter the first letter of your state 10 times as one entry. #17 Now enter the last letter of your state 10 times as one entry. #18 Now mathematically add all the numbers in the frequency range printed on the back of your scanner. This total is now entered as an entry. #19 Enter the same total now but in reverse order. #20 Repeat step #1. #21 Repeat step #2.

Simple, effective and best of all FREE!

I hope to buy the same scanner soon as soon as I can afford it. I got the code information from a co-worker. With the money I save from not paying a person who wrote the program his rightful due, and might I say at a very reasonable price, I'm spending as "close call" tips for the exotic dancers when I get off work.
