Unhappy PRO-96 battery power issue

I recently unpluged my 96 from the AC power source and noticed that the scanner wont power up with battery power. I have tried both holders and nothing . It works fine with the wall wart. Any ideas ? Tried looking through the forum but didn't see anything as far as what the problem could be.

Tried with fresh batteries . Nothing. Must be internal somewhere. I'm not electronics educated so I'm limited as to what I can do.

Batteries safe to assume the batteries are in correct way. Other look at the metal contacts on all if dirty or not try some isopropyl alcohol to clean off the contacts, worth a shot anyways!

Good news! It is now working again. Not sure what I did or how but I inserted the battery holder and batteries and plugged in the ac adapter turned on scanner inserted removed the plug a few times and it is working on battery power again. I sthere some kind of switching mechanism that could get jammed up in there?
