Question about putting scanner online
Hi guys I am a newbie here and I was wondering if it was possible to but my Pro-96 online somehow for people to listen. I have been trying to search on how to do it but all I get back is online scanners and not how to do it. I have seen Shoutcast and stuff but don't really get it. Would it be possible to hook up a 1/8 wire from my scanner to a mic and do it that way and is there a program that would allow me to do this? I don't want people to remote control it or anything, just listen if they want. I am sorry if this has been asked before Thanks in advance.

Incident Broadcast
www.incidentbroadcast.com
(Thats actually the right link, but dont worry, I can understand how that could hapen :-)
I run the Lynchburg, VA feed from this network. It is a very, very easy thing to set up, and the staff is very nice...Its a good place to run your feed! It has a instant messaging feature that allows you to talk to every user, privatley or publicly. Seriously, check out the webite and talk to one of the administrators!

Teamspeek, makes me cringe.
Go with icecast, simplecast, and get dyndns.org auto updater.

Thanks
terrific, thanks guys I will check em all out.
Our department went digital about 5 years back and I know not everyone likes to dish out $500 or so for a scanner. I know I was mad when my old Pro-34 went obsolete

I agree, I have used Teamspeak but found icecast, simplecast, and get dyndns.org auto updater to work much better. I have a 24/7 feed on line at: http://myworldpage.no-ip.org:8000/
I normally have 2-8 people listening and it seems to work fine. If you need help getting set up let me know and I will try to help (I have had it set up for a while so will have to try to remember the steps).

I'm using WMedia Encoder and haven't had a problem, and it's free. You just have to make sure you have a static IP address or go to a type of "no-ip" redirector and your set. I'll help you if you choose to go this route.
I have also used Winamp and liked it alot, but for me, the Windows Media Encoder is far easier to set up and use. Also, not everyone has Winamp and would therefore need to dowload it. All windows based computers come with Windows Media Player.
Just my .02 cents

There is also a new Server out for Beta testing called Steamcast which is Icecast / Shoutcast rolled in one. I also run a server here and allow a few others to stream to my server also.

I am having to use a relay host to stream my feed.
I am using Nicecast to stream my feed. It's my understanding tha if I was not using a relay host I could control the numbe of users on my feed and even see how many are tuned in at a given time.
I should also mention I am using an "Imic"
My feed link
http://ve3nsv.no-ip.org:8000/scanNWWashington.m3u
And it is pretty much most of the metro Seattle area and surrounding communities.
Extra special thanks to Terry Green for being my relay host. And to Matt Roberts for helping me get my feed up

Looking for recent Scanner Streaming info
The posts on this thread all look pretty old. I was wondering if there's anyone who has experience with streaming a scanner on a Vista platform. I have several "spare" scanners and computers and a FIOS web connection and I'd like to put up a good scanner stream.
Anyone with the right info out there?
