It's very dependent of how your local system behaves and the number of sites you plan on monitoring. Some systems will never or very rarely (a few of hours in several years) use the alternate control channels. Other systems change control channels periodically, which makes programming all control channels listed.
If you only plan on monitoring a small number of sites, it would probably be better to keep everything programmed to ensure that nothing is missed. If you plan on monitoring a number of sites on the same system or listen while mobile, then it might be better to omit the alternate control channels. It will simplify your programming, allow you to program more sites for large system, and may slightly increase the performance when trying to lock onto a new site since it doesn't need to check the alternate control channels.
