They could, but then they would never put them on sale, and then raise the price a little I'd hate to spend $20 more for each scanner when they use the same cable. Now that they sell a USB cable, if they raised the price to include either cable, someone would end up with a cable that they would rather not have.

I wonder if all of the newest unidens use the same cable?

I owned a PRO-2055 previously, and had no problems with the display. Now I'm on my second PRO-2055, and again no problems. Excellent radio!

Are you guys that are having problems going mobile with your rig? I'm wondering if vibrations from the road may be loosening something like a ribbon cable connector?

I'm having the problem and am using it as a base. It sits on my computer desk and isn't moved. It's in NY now being repaired. Hopefully once it is repaired, I won't have any other problems.

Nope, mine's sitting on my desk as a backup for my bc898t. the problem seems to come and go for no reason.

Display went out again.
Will not come back on.
I will take it to RS today, and hope for the best.
I refuse to wait 3 weeks for it to come back from repair, as it did last time.
It was repaired in New York.

That's terrible. I hope mine doesn't go out. Man, I'd be sick.

Good luck on the repair process this time.

Well it just cost me $30 to ship my 2055 back to RS, under warranty. It better be fixed correctly... Right now I would not recommend this to unit to anyone.

I've seen more than one that was bad right out of the box.

My wife mentioned that they said the display would be replaced with a new or used display.
My repair order does not say repaired with new display, only (replaced the display).
I sure hope that it wasn't a used display, causing it to go out again this time.

My scanner was purchased 11/2005
DATE CODE 09A05
Repaired 3/15/2006 at TCS - Amherst New York
Never used mobile.

Service depot replacing pro-2055 with a used display?!?

WTF! The display could fail almost immediatly. With a new display
you would get a some average time of failure. With used it's a crap
shoot...and your the looser.

I think this is growing way out of proportion. Considering the number of PRO-2055's that have been sold, there has not been what I would consider a high incidence of failure. It may be as little as one production run, on one day.

As to the display problem I have had, Radio Shack called yesterday and said that they were going to replace my scanner with a new one.

I went to pick it up yesterday, got home only to have the display bad right out of the box.

I tried the contrast adjustment, to no avail. This is a new one with the wrap still on it.

The date code is 06A05.

I'll try another today.............

Dang! Keep us updated. I am curious as to why they replaced it instead of repairing it. Could it be more than just a faulty display?

Dang!! is right, that's crazy. I'm expecting my 2055 to arrive today. I really wasn't concerned about this display problem until now. I hope for the best.

Safetyobc, you haven't said nothing about yours going bad so I assume it's working just fine...

It would be neat to know (but impossible) what percentage of 2055 scanners manufactured turned out to be lemons, display-wise.

I agree with MacombMonitor. Probably a very small percentage.

Small percentage?

I wonder. Because we here at rr.com make up a very small percentage of scanner owners. Very few people (in the scanning community as a whole) know about rr.com and those that do even fewer participate here.

So with the several that has been reported here, it makes me wonder if it isn't more widespread.

Mine is okay so far, knock on wood! But I have had it less than a month too!

From what I've heard/seen, all the display problems come dead on arrival.

RS should replace the unit if it is under 30 days old.
