PRO-96 scans but no voice is heard
I'm hoping this is an easy oversight on my part. I recently purchased a PRO-96 for it's digital capabilities. However I ran into a problem. The problem is I hear no voice communications coming across. I did the following to set it up. (BTW I am not using any programmng SW - only the PRO-96 keypad). 1)Selected the desired bank, 2) Entered the CC's and associated freq's for my zone using Motorala as the trunking system ( I used the following link for this info - http://www.radioreference.com/module...=TRSDB&sid=499) 3) Enter the appropriate TGID's for my local area and text tagged them. 4) Start scanning but no voice communications.
During the scan I see the scanner stopping on a TGID but no communication. This also occurs on those TGID's that I did not define.
There is one way I can get my local area to be heard and that is if I use my local area's trunking system from within the V-scanner. The local area I am talking about is San Diego Co. (V-scanner #2, bank #8) As a quick test, I entered a few TGID's for my local area which is Escondido, and it works just fine. But I want to start from scratch. In other words, rather than modifying the V-scanner's I want to have a clean set of banks. I have entered the same frequencies into the "clean" bank as the V-scanners and entered all Escondido PD related TGID's. There is one thing I notice when scanning Escondido through the V-scanner that I do not see on my "clean" bank. "-DG" appears on the V-scanner and "-MOT" on my clean bank. I've been unable to find a way to define -DG for the TGID's ( What does -DG mean? I assume "D" is for digital, but what does "G" mean?) I have also tried both open and closed banks.
I think I'm on the right track but it appears I'm missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure the freqs and the bank are both set to MOT. Then make sure the bank is in CLOSED mode. Good luck!!

Oh, yeah, Dg means you are receiving a digital transmission with no AGC turned on...DG means the same thing but with the AGC turned on.

If you PGM with WIN96 you can see all the settings that need attention for each bank. Good Luck

When Id's (or programmed tags) are displayed in a Motorola system but no sound, then the problem is going to be tables (CC can't find the correct voice freq). In this case the system is 800 which normally do not need any changes in tables. However, San Diego is one of those rare Splintered systems, thus needs the FUNC + 3 set accordingly.
Web Import would not set this to Splinter either, cause no category is set in the RR page for the software to do so for 800 splintered systems.
Dana1234 advised the preloaded V-Folder 2 bank 8 works. The reason it works is because Splinter is selected in that bank.
With Win96, as Larry stated, the process would be much easier. More importantly, all of the effort (Freqs & Talkgroups) would have been saved and a simple check in the Splinter bullet under 3600 CC would have solved the issue with a new upload to scanner.
I suspect dana is restructuring the ID's and Tags of the retrieved V-Folder, rather then reprogramming everything manually again.

I wonder why when you have these splinter systems, one of the Administrators or mods couldn't just add a *note next to the first line where the frequncies are listed what Frank suggested.
System Frequencies
Red* are Primary Control Channels, Blue* are alternate control channels. This is a splinter system therefore you will need to do the following proceedure if you are monitoring this system with a Radio Shack Pro 96/2096 as well as the pro 97 scanner.
Try pressing the following buttons on your scanner.
PGM
TRUNK
FUNC + 3
Down button to Splinter (on line 4 of display)
ENTER
SCAN

It may be a GRE problem only. The digital Unidens don't have a setting for splinter, so they must have a work around.

All, thank you for your help. Scnnr and Fmon, setting the trunk to Splinter worked.
Once again thank you.

Great to hear that you are monitoring ok now. You can thank Frank for his quick eyes as he caught your problem right away.
I moniitor the S.D system up here in Manitoba Via Teamspeak once in awhile.

Not "quick eyes"
But do recall the early days with this system when those guys in San Diego were trying to find a way to scan it. Then came the Pro-96 with table settings and the famous V-Scanner, specifically folder 02 with banks 7 & 8 set to Splinter. I think a few may have had multiple orgasms when the 96 hit the market.
Anyway, you got it working Dana.

I'll tell you, the Pro-96 is a great little scanner. I'm happy with it although I am new to sanning the digital side of things. A few years ago I owned a Pro2004 base unit. It worked just fine here in my local area, but when the system changed, I was left out in the mudd.
BTW: I've noticed on the PRO-96 that sometime the CC does not lock in. In other words when there is traffic everything works fine, but it seems once there is silence for a couple of minutes, the CC is lost. When I hit "Man", I see the CC is now on the alternate channel. This is not a big deal. All I do is manually set the primary CC and I'm back to scanning. Any thoughts?
Thanks

I think you are using the city system (one site) so the below will apply only should you want to program the multi-site county system in another bank.
Experience of many user suggest arranging multi-site frequencies as follows:
Code:
North Zone 861.20000
North Zone 862.15000
North Zone 862.20000
North Zone 863.15000
1300.00000
East Zone 867.77500
East Zone 867.95000
East Zone 868.37500
East Zone 868.92500
1300.00000
Of course, three of each grouping are Alt CC's and should be programmed in the event they are used as duty CC. The first 1300 MHz freq is used to sort of force the scanner to look beyond the North CC into the next set. The second 1300 is to force it out of East, then back to the beginning. You could very well use any FM freq in the spacing but then it may come into play when you don't want it to.
I originaly used 29.00000 in the space, but a better scannist then I suggested it often produced noise which doesn't occour at 1300.00000.
Again, disregard if you are not using the County system.
