Default pro97, win97 and rr csv file

I purchased a Radio Shack pro97 as my first scanner a couple of months ago and haven't had the time to really learn it. I joined the pro97 group at yahoo and read the messages that are posted. One of the things I learned from the yahoo group is that many newbies find it easier to get a cable, win97 and a radioreference.com account to help with programming, so I've done this. The win97 software communicates with the scanner and I verified that I can download/save the factory programming into win97, change the startup screen and upload it back to the scanner. This all works fine......

My next step in the learning process was to download the csv file from radioreference.com for Ulster County, NY. Here is where my confusion begins. I imported the Ulster csv into win97 then uploaded it to the pro97 and when I powered up the scanner it said all channels are locked out. Ok, so I reconnected the cable and uploaded the factory default programming back to the scanner and everything is back to where it was....whew.

Do I need to import the Ulster csv file into the factory default file then upload? I guess I view this as "merging" the factory default programming with the Ulster specific programming overwriting some factory defaults. Does this sound right?

Thank You,
Jim

The format of the csv file that RR has is not the format that WIN97 wants. If you want to import data use the tab in win97 to import from Radioreference. If you want to merege data you already have, you can play with csv files that win97 makes. CSV files are not realy a universal format, every program wants the data in a certain order and all csv is data seperated by commas.

Thanks for the reply, I will try the import over the web then. This seems to imply that win97's import from the web is somehow different from the file->import function after downloading the csv. I've been forced to work with a variety of "quote" and/or "comma" delimited data files over the last 25 years or so.

Thanks again!

Importing from the web with win97 is XML format written just for the RadioReference database.

Question WIN97 and RR files

This is all clear as mud to me. I am expeirencing the same situation. I have downloaded the "trial version" WIN97. I web import from rr my choices, then upload it to my PRO97 scanner, then get the message all channels locked out.
I really could use some help here. At the rate i am going, the 30 day trial period will have expired, with me learning 101 ways not to load it.

I am flyer_tx on yahoo messenger, online in the daytime if anyone would be kind enough to help me out here.

thanks
Jim

Jim,

The download process from RR has nothing to do with upload to (or download from) the radio. That process works the same no matter the source of the information you put in your Win97 Template. That said, make sure you are really uploading things to the radio. Try downloading what you manually program, then compare what you see in the Win97 program on that template to some other template you attempted to upload. Somewhere you will see the difference (other than actual frequency/TG information of course).

Loumagg,

Thank you for the assistance. I downloaded the factory preprogrammed freqs which is all that would work. Immediatley noticed the difference!! The download i was attempting to accomplish was Ft Worth area trunked freqs on MOT sys. I had selected my desired talk groups and never realised that I had to select the site, which contains the freqs. This is a great learning expeirence, including what i learned while not being able to get it to properly program. Still a long ways to go but at least i am up and running with the pro97 and RR database computer interface.
Again, a respectfull thanks for the thought stimulation!
