Default Unable to load Pro 97 with Win 97 file

I am trying to load a p97 file into my new Pro 97. I downloaded a file for my area off Yahoo Pro 97 newsgroup. I am getting a "writing" message and progress bar on the computer screen. After download is complete nothing has changed on the scanner. I reset the scanner to remove all preloaded frequencies. Also I am unable to download anything from the scanner to the PC. I get a timed out message. Any and all help will be appreciated.

Go to "Configuration / Serial port" and change the com port. Might want to extend the write time too

It was my laptop. Tried on the desktop and everything works perfect. I will have to figure out what is keeping it from working on the laptop. It is a new Dell laptop if anyone can lead me in the right direction.

Thanks

Hi,not knowing what cable/operating system your using,it hard to know whats wrong. If your using the rs usb cable ,on the cd is a manual that tells how to install and trouble shoot any problems you may have.

I read this in another thread, try this.

Hook up the USB cable only to your laptop, then goto CTLR then System then Devices, now go down to the USB's, find the one that shows for the usb cable, look for the com port number it's using. Then config. the software for the right com port with your laptop.

Did that and it "acted" llike it was loading the new files but it wasn't. The computer showed the progress bar moving, but the scanner screen did not. Something in the laptop is keeping it from transferring the files.

Have you tried this.
With your desktop com port, check the Bits per second, Data Bits, Parity, Stop Bits, and Flow Control. then look at you laptop and check it's setting for this port.
Maybe something wrong here.

The WinXX programs are in complete control of the COM port. Anything you change "outside" of those programs will have no effect at all.

Ok, If he can run it fine on his desktop and everything works, then what could be causing his laptop not to comm. with the scanner? Maybe it's some other program, firewall, ant-virus...ect..

Or, on the laptop, the COM port number in Win97 isn't really set to the value assigned by Windows to the USB cable. Or the USB cable's drivers weren't installed successfully, and no COM port has been assigned to the cable.

Under Device Mgr it shows com port 4 as the USB active com port. I choose com port 4 in the Win 97 program. It acts like it is uploading to the scanner but the scanner screen does not change nor does the new information get transferred. When I upload from the desktop the scanner screen as well as the computer screen shows the progress of the upload.

I have several programs for several brands of receivers/transceivers. Two being the P-96 & 97. The com port issue was really getting to me. I just kept changing the number (as stated above) and finally found the one that the cable would work with. One issue was with a Kenwood tranceiver. No com port seemed to work with the cable and a serial to usb adapter. I finally found that the radio had to be unsquelched in order for the data to transfer. I hope this info helps.
