Exclamation Can Not Up Load To Starr 95 Program?

I did ask for help in this subject about 2 months ago and the fact of the matter is that I am still having problems up loading to the Don Starr program. This is where I have been and where I am with my problem. I used to the WIN 95 program with out any problems with my old Windows 98 PC untill I got this Dell Windows XP. This Dell tower does not have a 9 pin plug in slot on the tower, so I went and bought a 9 pin adapter so that I could plug it in using a usb plug into my Dell tower. The reason I mention this is cause I wonder if this can be the problem, I have been dealing with for the last 2 months (trying to up load my freqs to the 95 pro) I did install the cd that came with this new 9 pin adapter, so that portion is covered...lol
I have also down loaded the zip files and opened them up, from Dons 95 program. I have tried using all the different ports options from the 95 program.
BOTTOM LINE.... I stil get this message stating that "THE DATA RECIEVED CONTAINED ERRORS". I have two pro 95 scanners and I did clear all the chls and memory from one scanner and just entered 1 freq on the scanner and tried to up load that... Same message "THE DATA RECIEVED CONTAINED ERRORS" Brothers and sisters out there, please try to give me some more input. I am sure it is probably some small crazy thing that I am not doing right. Mean time, I am going "STIR CRAZY" trying to figure this one out. Any bit of help or tips will be more than apreciated. I will be looking forward to any tips......God bless you all...............Ed

I had the problem once.... I have the old serial cable tried the serial>USB adapter, nothing worked... the adapter appeared to be the problem because the serial cable worked on a different Dell running XP (not my normal workstation)... took the adapter back, bought a USB cable and the rest is happy up-/downloading.... seems some adapters just don't mesh well with the GRE scanners.... Open Device Manager. With serial cable unplugged, plug the USB>Serial into the USB port. Observe activity in Device Manager during engagement and disengagement of the cable. Resolve any conflict (usually a yellow exclamation point) which may appear when plugging into the USB port by right click and selecting update driver. Make sure your driver disk is already in the CD drive.

BTW, you should get a double tone when engaging or disengaging the USB cable.

Thanks for your tips and input. The cable that I bought for uploading and down loading freqs has a female serial port. I tried it on an other HP Pc and all worked well. I guess the Dell Pc just does not want to work with this Serial/USB connector I bought for this Dell.
My Question is now??? Does Radio Shack or any one else sell the cable from this Pro 95 with a USB plug??? I think that may permit me to use this Dell Pc I have in my home office. I will call Radio Shack and ask. The problem I have encounter with RS is that most of the time these very young kids working there do not know very much about "scanners". Thanks again for your help.............Ed in North Texas....

Try going to the MFR web site to make sure you have the LATEST DRIVER for your adapter. Usually ones that come on a disc are out of date.

See the other thread about the cable.
