Newbie with Pro 97 Issues (Trunk Scanning)

I'm having some issues with my pro 97. I'm trying to only listen to certain talkgroups (quickly figured out I didn't want to hear everything...), but I can't seem to scan when I have the scanner in MOT trunking mode. If I turn it to FM and have MOT trunking enabled, it scans fine. I've tried both open and closed modes. In addition, if I set it to MOT, but turn trunking off for that bank, it scans and shows the tgids, but I can't select between closed and open modes so I still hear everything (I just know who I'm listening to).

I've read both the normal RS and the easier to read manual for this scanner, but for the life of me can't figure it out. Any help would be appricated. I feel that I'm very close, but I've been beating my head for a while. Thanks.

The bank and channels both need to be set to MOT. You need to program TGID's into the scan lists and set the Bank to CLOSED.

Do yourself a favor and get Win97 and a programming cable!!

Also, stop beating your head...it's not really good for you!!

I'm not sure what you mean that both of them need to be set to MOT. I do have each channel set to MOT. Are you referring to the option accessed by pressing the "trunk" button? If so, I've done that but still get no results. With trunking in MOT and each channel in MOT, I get nothing with the banks open or closed.

If I'm being a total bonehead about this, could someone just point me to the place in the manual that describes this? I'm so puzzled... I guess for now I'll just listen to EVERYTHING in FM mode...

Let's start at the beginning.... I usually program all frequencies that belong to a system, however only the control frequencies need to be programmed. Furthermore, only one frequency is the active control channel at any one moment. So program in the frequencies, and set the MODE for EACH to MO. MANUALly step thru each. Can you hear data transmitting on any of them? If it is the control channel, the bottom line of the display will give you the system ID and a %.

If you are getting that far, put the scanner into SCAN mode, with the bank OPEN and you should hear conversations. You'll see the talkgroup ID appear on the 4th line of the display.

Does it work that far?

Haha, ok guys, thanks for all your help.

I've figured it out. I actually reset the scanner during that startup phase and reprogrammed it. Now it all works great and I'm only hearing what I want. Thanks for all your help, I'm really not a dummy!!!

I'm not sure why I had to reset this thing. That was my last ditch effort because everything that I've read I've done, but it still wasn't working. Either way, I'm happy now!

I'm having probs entering and Edacs trunk sys. I enter the channels one by one; sometimes I get voice, sometimes I get the hammer. and no it's not bleeding from a nearby system; the other scanner works fine.
?
recommend software? how much is this win 97?

well...I broke out the credit card and got Win 97. still trying to figure out this thing, but I did get my local Edacs county loaded. now I just have to wait for something Fun and Exciting to happen round here.
