Question Pro 95 and EDACS

I'm trying to program my Pro 95 to work with EDACS, and I'm a huge newb. I'm looking at the RR database for my area, (Newfoundland, Canada).
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=3635

Under trunking, the Newfoundland Provincial Radio System is on EDACS. So I click that, and it gives me a list of "System Frequencies". Ok....but there are a number of them there for my City (St. John's). They are listed as:

013 Firewood Hill, St. John's 01 158.76000* 02 159.27000 03 161.40000 04 161.04000

014 St John's 01 160.20000 02 160.80000* 03 161.40000 04 162.12000

Then at the bottom of the page we have talk group IDs for our 2 police forces, RCMP and RNC. Now on to my question....When programming EDACS I know i have to start with the second channel of the bank. so looking at these system frequencies, do I have to put them in the order listed there? Like for "014 St. johns" would i put the 4 frequencies in the order listed there in channels 001, 002, 003 and 004? Or would I only have to put in the Primary control channel into channel 001?
Also when putting in the Talkgroup IDs listed at the bottom, how do I know which frequency they are for? Or will they work will all the Frequencies listed on the page?

Sorry I've read the "easier to understand" pro 95 manual and I'm still not getting this.

Thanks!

Always skip the first channel in each bank, so 000 and 100 ect
example if you are programming on bank0

01 158.76000* this would be channel 001
02 159.27000 Channel 002
03 161.40000 Channel 003
04 161.04000 Channel 004

Trunk to EDAC and make sure each channel is set to EDAC

if you were going into bank 1 this would be channels 101, 102, 103 and 104
So you are right there, in a EDAC have to enter all LCN numbers.

Only having to enter a Control channel is when you do a Motorla APCO-25 Digital system.

Ok Do I have to enter the talk group ID's on each channel or just the first one? I have
01 158.76000* entered into channel 201, and I entered all the talkgroup IDs however the scanner isn't recognizing it as a control channel and I'm getting the "engine" sound of a control channel. I double checked and it was programmed as EDACS.

any one of those four channels could be the controal channel. EDAC moves control channels around all the time. After you program in all four channels, in manual mode, listen to all four channels one at a time to see if you hear the control channel noise.
If you are not sue what the control channel sounds like here is an acample of one
http://westmichiganscan.com/sounds/sounds.htm

If you do not get any control channel sounds on any of the four channels, most likley you have a recpetion issue, like being too far away or something like that.

Also talkgroup IDs can't be entered in a channel. talkgroup IDs pertian to an entire bank.

All 4 frequencies have to be entered and set as EDACS.

Talkgroup IDs (TG) and frequencies are separate entities. First you program the control channel frequencies. If you're OK with receiving ALL TGs, then you do not need to program any TGs; just set the bank to OPEN. However, there are usually TGs we don't want to hear mixed in with police, fire and other exciting TGs. So in order to limit which TGs you hear, you need to program those TGs and set the bank to CLOSED. Once you've got it working, you'll be able to lock out and unlock TGs just like channels.

ALL trunking frequencies (in that bank) need to be set to EDACS. Also, the bank must be set to EDACS. Also, if you are in MANual mode, you WILL hear the control channel. In order to properly track a trunked system, the scanner must be in SCAN mode.

Good luck

I've got all 4 freqs entered properly, however i'm still getting the control channel noise on the first one. All 4 of them are set as EDACS, however I don't know how to set the bank to EDACS, maybe thats the problem.

I believe when programming manually (not with WIN95), the first time you press PGM FUNC TRUNK (while in that bank) it will query you.

Are you sure the system is EDACS?

According to the RR database its EDACS. I guess it could be wrong....
I don't remember it querying me about about what mode to put the bank in, but I guess I could of got confused and figured it was asking me about the channel.

Unhappy Pro-95 & Edacs

OK, I checked the link you provided and it certainly does look like the system you are trying to program is EDACS. That is the good news. I see that the frequencies are VHF (HI). I checked with the PRO-95 manual and found the following text on page 21: "However, you cannot program MOT (Motorola), or ED (EDACS) mode in VHF."

So bottom line it looks like the PRO-95 will not work with the system you are trying to monitor. Sorry.
