Basement Freq's??? Oh, you must mean cellULar frequencies. The answer is maybe. Will you find the information you are looking for here? Absolutely not. It's illegal to modify your scanner to recieve cellular frequencies. It's acually a federal crime. Matter of fact its stated right on the back of your pro-97, or is that where you got the idea to ask how to do it?

And the wireless carriers are shutting down the analog side this year so there will be nothing to hear since it will be all digital. There have been stories in the media about the the fact that early OnStar and alarm systems will stop working.

I'll be Greg House, M.D. here for a moment (I know he's a TV character but dammit he's my hero):

THERE'S NOTHING TO LISTEN TO ANYMORE WITH A SCANNER UNBLOCKED FOR THE OLD CELLULAR BAND. IT'S DEAD, JIM. AND NO IT WASN'T LUPUS.

All cell phones work on digital services nowadays, they have for years now in the 1.8 to 2 GHz range, so even if you had an unblocked scanner there really isn't anything there anymore.

'Nuff typed.

Yes, it is true that Security Systems that use the AMPS (Analog Mobile Phone System) for signal transmission will not be able to send these signals to their Central Staion Monitoring Service. February 18, 2008 is the date the FCC has stated that Cellular Carriers do not have to support analog signals after this date. It is up to the carrier to determine if they want to continue analog service.
