Default Railroad Programs on Satellite/Cable

I'm not technically a railfan. I don't know much about railroading. I don't snap pictures. I don't typically monitor RR frequencies. But I do find the railroads fascinating.

If you are fortunate enough to get RFDTV on your cable, DirecTV or DishNetwork and you can record it with a DVR or VCR, you should keep a lookout for their "Trains & Locomotives" programming. It's very interesting.

Just today I watched an hourlong episode of "Trains & Locomotives" called "Steam Dream: The Ohio Central Story." It was a great show about the OCRR. Quite a bit of steam video and interviews with the owner. From 2008.

I'd recommend that you guys interested in railroading keep an eye out for this type of programming on RFDTV.

RFDTV

Monday April 6th
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EST
New York Steam Showcase

Tuesday April 7th
4:00 am - 5:00 am EST
New York Steam Showcase

Saturday April 11th
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST
New York Steam Showcase

HISTORY CHANNEL

Tuesday April 7th
11:00 pm - 12:00 am EST
Freight Train Education

(A freight train travels from LA to Dallas/FW)

Wednesday April 8th
3:00 am - 4:00 am EST
Freight Train Education

(A freight train travels from LA to Dallas/FW)

I believe I've also seen some interesting hourlong shows on The History Channel, TLC or DISC about the BNSF and UP.

So if you're a railfan you should keep an eye out on RFDTV, The History Channel, TLC and Discovery for interesting programs on the railroads.

I know what you're talking about. I've watched it a few times myself, and it's interesting. One time he went out to that big yard in California somewhere (the most famous train hub in the states I guess) - and the amount of trains and cargo being hauled in and out of there was insane. Was a fun watch. I'm sure that was on DISC or TLC.

The RFD one is good, because they basically show the pro/amateur type videos that are sold by people.... Which is good if you're interested to see them, but maybe not so much that you want to buy it.

Indeed. I watched one once where there was a train plowing snow with a rotary plow up in the mountains somewhere in New Mexico. It was a good watch. I think one particular place/guy produces many of those because they always have the same narrator.

It is called "Extreme Trains" and it is on History channel. Google is a wonderful thing.

I would like to see the programs, but It's kinda odd that RFD TV corporate and sales offices are here in Omaha, but I don't get RFD TV over Cox Communications here in Omaha.

Thanks...appropriately titled. I wasn't compelled to Google because knowing the name isn't going to make me any more or less likely to watch it. If it's on and I come upon it, I watch it. I don't plan my TV watching

mtindor, Thanks for the info. Prior to our cable system dropping off the air the other night, were unable to receive that particular channel. I noticed that it appeared after the system came back up. Just hope it stays up. BTW we have ComCast.

I wasn't trying to imply anything. I was just curious as to what the name was. I searched TLC, Disc and then History channels. I saw it and added it to the thread. :{ )

Another great one was The Salad Bowl Express. It followed a load of lettuce from California to New York. It ran on PBS.
