Default Train Festival 2009

I am curious, how many people here are planning to attend "Train Festival 2009," located in Owosso, Michigan? This will be a major steam locomotive event, as nine completely restored steam engines will be attending the four-day festival that runs from July 23-26, 2009. The big surprise, is that Southern Pacific Daylight 4449 is coming to Michigan, all the way from Portland, Oregon. A complete list of the steam locomotives attending are:

  • Pere Marquette 1225
  • Nickel Plate Road 765
  • Southern Pacific 4449
  • Flag Coal 75
  • Little River 110
  • Little River #1
  • Leviathan No. 63
  • Viscose No.6
Now would be a good time to make a list of frequencies that will be used for this event. I am sure that all the railhams will be on: 146.490 (Primary); 146.550 (Secondary); 223.620; 446.050; 1294.550 MHz. Likewise, the railroad operations will be on the 160.215 - 161.565 MHz band. Anyone else have any additional frequencies that will be used at this event?

73s

Ron

I thought it was pretty cool how they setup tracking for the SP train.

Track SP 4449 to TrainFestival 2009

While I don't plan on attending, SP 4449 is supposed to run near my apartment (within a mile) to and from the event - and yes, I plan on foaming.

The pic where it went through State near the soccer field looked pretty nostalgic. That was back in the day.............

I would also monitor 151.625.

A lot of railroad museum groups use this frequency. Even some of the big railroads have it licensed.

I live in Vernon,Mi. I have had the trains running by my place for days now. I'm only 7 miles from Owosso and I've heard they are expecting thousands of people over the weekend. Today the Mich. state police were hopping from one crossing to another, doing crowd control. At one point there were hundreds of cars they had to deal with at one crossing alone. They are shutting down part of downtown Owosso to keep as much order as possible. I also expect my scanners to be very busy police & fire wise also. I am not a huge train fan but those steam engins are very interesting.

Just to update my last post, the train fest seems to be a huge hit. As I drove through Owosso on Fri. there were aprox. 30,000 people In town, the weather was perfect. There running a shuttle from the fair grounds which Is aprox. 10 mi. from owosso to the downtown area. My scanners have been busy almost non-stop. I did get down there and see the trains and It was worth the time. I have seen plates on cars from all over the country.
