Not that this has anything to do with monitoring railroad radio traffic but it does have to do with railroad emergencies and safety.
A few days ago I was able to attend a great training course from Operation Lifesaver regarding
Rail Safety for Emergency Responders.

The RSER course is designed to provide emergency responders critical information to prepare them for responding to a railroad incident, including: safe response; knowledge of railroad electrical, fuel, and air systems; hazardous materials; identifying rolling stock; pinch points; stopping a train; high/low pressure tank cars; and other on-scene dangers.

Very interesting and informative class and for any of you rail-fans that may also be Emergency Responders I would highly suggest you take this course. Click on the link above for more information on how to schedule one for your area.
