Rail Feeds?
I am just wondering if there are any rail feeds for NYC?
I am not sure if anyone has any dispatch/MOW/Road feeds or Police?

NY Rail feeds
There used to be one I think it was on Bergen Scanner, I'm not really sure of that though, however I checked every live feed site last night & the closest railfeed for NY is upstate somewhere probably picking up CSX, NS & CP RAIL. You live right in the Big Apple why not just get a handheld or desktop digital trunking capable scanner as a lot of out of allocation railroad bandchanging is going on in the metro NY, NJ area, plus you wont be tied to a PC or laptop, usually live feeds are for Noo Yawk transplants like me who live too far away to hear the good stuff up close & personal, I listen to Phils (W2LIE) live Nassau & Suffolk county FD feeds since I grew up on Long Island. Maybe someone on RR knows of a site we both never heard of, give it some time & see what happens.

I want to pick up a portable for rail, i was thinking of getting an older MT1000 99 channels, I literally live about 1000 feet from a switching track for MTA, Amtrak, CSX and P&W,
They come by like 8-10 times a day if not more, shakes the entire house, but it's Da bronx, i get what i pay for...but i dont mind, i actually enjoy watching it, there is also alot of MOW ops around me, seems that they can't get the switch to work right ever, the other day a MTA train was there for 2 hours loaded with people, and Amtrak and MTA where out there, seems that they had something stuck on the track and tehy were prying it out..but im laid off....so as soon as i get working and re-established, i am going to look into a MT1000 99 channels with scan,

New Haven branch?
MTA (Northern division) MNCRR, AMTRAK (NEC), CSX & P&W, sounds liike you live very close to the New Haven branch, am I right? if I am I guess the P&W rock train was the giveaway or maybe you live near MO TWR. The MT1000 would be the perfect portable for the 97 AAR frequencies, When I lived in Queens I used a Vertex VX4000 for the house & a VX800 for railfanning, after NJ Transit equipped all of their light rail lines including Newark City Subway to a trunked system & finding out PATCO was on 500.0 MHZ, not to mention that MTA (NYCTA) Divs A, B1 & B2 & NYPD (Transit division) was switching to UHF I knew it was time to grab a Uniden BCD396T to cover not only the original AAR bandplan but all of the railroad trunked & out of band frequencies so you might want to think about your future listening needs. Just when you get comfortable with something, things start changing, go figure.

I think i might live by the New Haven Line, I would assume so being that P&W come this way, I heard one day when i did have a scanner that they were coming this way for dumping purposes?
But i see the MTA Rail Pick up trucks for the MOW mostly every day, there are some elevated tower looking stations with alot of lines on them, and they are always working on them, But i know they have HT1250's, i wish i could afford one,
but i was also thinking about investing in a Railroad Spectra for my desk,
I was thinking about the Emergency stuff too..like the USCG has Ch 16, does AAR have a desginated emergency channel?

Nationwide AAR allocation frequency
The AAR has only one nationwide allocated frequency & that is AAR Chan 73 161.205 which is supposed to be a nationwide railroad police channel, many railroads have emergency frequencies however they are their own locally assigned channels, check the RR database for New York under railroads & also check www.n2nov.net & pull up MTA (Northern division) MNCRR & NYNJPA-PATH trains frequency list & you will see their assigned emergency frequencies. Are you near the west end of CSX Oak point yard paralleling the Bruckner Expressway just before they head over the Hell Gate Bridge or are you near Shell tower where Metro North splits with NEC? & are the wires you are talking about are they the catenary wires that the AMTRAK & Metro North trains run their pantographs off of? I'm trying to get a ballpark idea of where you live without getting too specific, PM me if you want & we can talk about this some more, fair enough?

You could listen to rail, USCG, ships and a lot of other stuff with something as simple as the Uniden 72xlt. They're out there for $75.
