I tried the frequencies that I had gathered from someone(I don't remember who or where?) on the Great Smokey Mountains railroad are wrong. These are;

461.1625

461.575 466.575

463.250 468.250

Does anyone have the proper one's ? I tried an FCC search and no luck.

They are using UHF frequencies that are listed as NCDOT out of either Dilsboro or Bryson City, I cant remember for sure. I used to spend a lot of time out in that area listening to them. I will see if I can track down the frequencies again.

EDIT: Fount it

467.8125 is what is listed, but I am not sure thats correct. But you can easily ind their frequency. Go to Bryson City Depot about an hour before a train is scheduled to leave and just scan the 450-470 band. If you have access to a freq counter find a good, comfy spot to sit near the depot antenna, turn it on and wait :) Thats how I go frequency hunting. That will at least get you their input freq if the have a repeater and you can figure out what the output is by that. The output for 450-470 is almost always 5MHz different from the input.

You can go here to search for just about anything the FCC hands out a license for:

The frequencies on the link posted above are the correct frequencies. I was just up there for the GSMR Railfest a few weeks ago and those AAR frequencies are used. The first one is dispatch to train/train to dispatch and the other two are for switching. The UHF frequencies I believe are used by the car attendants and are still installed in the engines as a separate radio to communicate with the engine crew. They only use one of them as the others are not used any longer by them. The UHF repeater channel belongs to another company and were used for many years. But no longer. With the advent of narrowbanding they switched to the VHF AAR band and purchased radios that are narrow band capable.
