Default New to railroad monitoring

I am an experienced scanner user. I will be taking Amtrak between Philadelphia and Savanah GA in December and would like to load up the scanner with a good selection of freqs for the trip. I am new to the world of railroad monitoring and would like some input on what and how to select things to listen to.

Are the Amtrak freqs available through the data base standard for the east coast? Or do I have to load new for each region I will be travelling through?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Go to: Amtrak & Home Page - On Track On Line match your train to the route & program in the displayed frequencies, if you have a scanner with 100 available channels just program the entire AAR railroad bandplan in it so you won't miss anything. Have fun.

Don't know what kind of scanner you have but I believe all the newer scanners [at least uniden] have all the railroad channels under the service search all ready entered. I use the search with scan when I am near rails.

Thanks Kenny, never thought of that, I do have a scanner that has that feature so I will give it a shot.

Most specifically, depending on the train (or combination) you'll be using, go to this page "On Track On Line - Amtrak Radio Frequencies" at that site, and use the Silver Star - Silver Meteor - and/or Palmetto listings (middle row on that chart). I'd put those in a "primary" bank, and then maybe add the other AAR frequencies elsewhere in the scanner. Virtually all of your trains' action will be on one of those three groups.

Enjoy your trip!
