Default Private Rail Operations?

I am not to sure about anywhere else, but my family lives in CT, and i come up to visit them from NYC, i usually go to branford CT,
They have a railroad track out there that runs a few miles for a company called Tilcon,
They do major blasting and quarry work as well as highway construction,

They have their own track that runs into wooded area's, which i imagine is to export large rocks, Ect from blasting zones,

As i have never seen the track active as of yet, I wonder if they have an AAR channel or are they exempt because they are the only company to use that track?

How does it usually work for situations like that?

I see 153.035 licensed to them for use in NY. They might use it there too. But no, it doesn't have to be a RR band channel. They could use 400 or whatever.

This may or may not help but there is a private railroad around here and they use business bands for comms.

Oddly enough they use some railroad band stuff too.

Default Private rail Operations

Dave, thanks for steering us in the right direction. I queried the FCC & Cityfreq. databases for Tilcon Inc. in Connecticut & came up with the following:

KCF706
152.87 MHz
North Haven

KJM978
47.44 MHz
47.48 MHz
North Branford

KJM979
47.48 MHz
Branford (Pine Orchard loading dock)

KQU415
156.45 MHz (Marine Ch: 9)
156.8 MHz (Marine Ch: 16)
156.9 MHz (Marine Ch: 18A)
Branford (Pine Orchard loading dock)

KQU751
152.87 MHz
North Haven

KTY775
152.87 MHz
North Branford

WPLZ283
452.0125 MHz
462.8625 MHz
North Branford

I seriously doubt that all of these frequencies are for rail ops, however SKYNET156 can plug them into his Connecticut scanner & figure it out. Thanks again.

I will def throw those in the 396 when i go up to CT, i am usually in milford or branford, i will check them out, as i said, i have never seen the rail used, it looks rusty, but they have bridges that cross over main roads, so i am not sure how long ago they were used? and if they even still use them?

I bet the low band ones are for field mobiles on trucks.

If they're really rusty, it's unlikely they still use it. Rail is a thing of the past in most quarry stuff now days. But there's a cool place called Fletcher Granite

and they still have a line that goes right up to the granite quarry. You can see it in photos on Bing maps.

Default Fletcher Granite

Dave, you think the engineer dreams of being an AMTRAK Acela pilot?

He's probably just happy not to fall in the pit.
