Programming software. You can do 8 on the railroad spectra and rr astro spectra. For the most part it is not used as in the rr industry it's really not needed.

Here is the inside of the jem. That is a Kenwood TK-7180H-K with working face. Take the radio out of the jem you can put it in your car and use it.

Wow... I guess I had always assumed that they were just the guts of the radio inside there instead of the entire radio... wonder of they have some custom firmware or something

In regards to the name tags for the home channels on the Ritron RCCR, you need the software kit (RCCR-PCPK-1.1) available from your dealer or Ritron. The software enables you to add the name tags as well as custom frequencies and custom TX/RX combinations. I think the software kit (CD with the software and a programming cable) is about $100.00.

Most, if not all Railroad clean-cab radios had essentially a mobile radio inside, but this is the first time I've seen it as being 100% true. The Spectra series had the Spectra mobile chassis inside, but without covers and the PA section was screwed down to the chassis. The MCX100 railroad radio has an MCX100 mobile radio inside but w/o control head, instead a cable went from the radio to the actual controls.

Here is a Kenwood NX700 inside a JEM... go figure, I read they do this with iCom's equivalent too, although I must admit the Kenwood to be superior, NXDN is built on-board already, no additional cost or additional board to buy.

AUSTRALIA: Original pre-ICE radio setup on drivers island console in QR National GE locomotive 5003. There is now an ICE radio console fitted here. The top radio is a Tait UHF transceiver, and the NEC handset was for the satellite phone.
