Default Anyone in Hamilton County hear railroad traffic?

I've programmed many Indianapolis area rail freqs into my scanners and 2m/70cm radio (see equipment in signature) and I have yet to here any traffic. Are the rail airwaves just this dead in the Indy area or am I just too far away in Westfield to here any traffic?

Quite possibly you are too far away. Not much runs north of 86th St. that I am aware of other than ITM. You probably won't hear anything on there freq. until the season starts up in a month or two. I think your best bet would be to get the antenna outside and up in the air. You might be able to snag some CSX signals out of Anderson, and maybe some of the northern most base stations out of Indianapolis Terminal.

Years ago, I lived in Wayne Township, near W. 10th and County Line Rd. Used to hear lots of stuff on many different frequencies from the Avon Yard in Eastern Hendricks County. Also hear much from the other railroads in the Indy area. That's been years ago. Many of the railroads have changed names since then and I am sure the frequencies are all different these days.

Sorry, I actually should have posted this thread under the Indiana section.
