Default Keep your distance

This is a reminder to all railfans
to keep your distance:

While a Rail enthusiast was taking video of a freight train going by, He captured the derailment on tape and was almost crushed by the rail car.

Wow! I've always wondered about that. What are the odds of that happening anyway?

Too close for comfort. I know when I'm out railfanning I try to stay at a safe distance from the tracks. Not only because of that, but the local police like to question you when you're right next to the tracks. I stay in my car until something comes along.

My friend's brother nearly got squashed some years ago and he wasn't nearly that close. The tracks are high on an embankment next to a highway and a boxcar nearly nailed him in a parking lot across the street. I heard the crash and went to investigate, there was wreckage for miles.

A few years later on another railroad a station master came within inches of his life when one came through the door of the station and he came nose to nose with it sitting behind his desk. The only safe way to take pictures is far away with a telephoto lens and then you'll probably get hit by a meteorite.

BTW, I downloaded a pile of interesting video from that site, there's something for everybody there.
