Nice mix of cars! When I was in my 20s I owned a '68 Tempest which had a Pontiac 455 in place of its original 350 and a GTO hood. I miss that beast. Nothing like the smell of sunbaked vinyl and raw fuel Which model of '56 Chevy do you have? If I had a choice in old school hotrods it would either be a '56 210 in black or a '56 Ford Mainline in black. The only thing holding me back is I don't have room yet to store it. STill dreamin'

I remember seeing one guy in a Crown Vic that had what looked to be 2 amber Kenworth truck turn signal lights on a stick in the rear window of his vehicle. /facepalm

That's funny about all the wacky people who do strange things to their Crown Vics
Nowadays people have it EASY if they want to put lights and junk in their cars. I remember many years ago when I was with the Fire Dept the only *lights* we had in our cars was a simple red tear drop rotating light. There were no tiny strobes or hide-away emergency lighting, and we were DECADES away from the ultra small LED technology people enjoy today. In our day you had just one little revolving light and the only "upgrade" possible was to replace the incandescent light bulb in the tear drop light with a brighter halogen bulb. I really thought I had something when I replaced that 35-watt bulb with a 55-watt halogen!! However, I know what you mean about people today putting some weird junk in their cars. A lot of younger kids will buy an old police car and then cram it full of emergency lights, siren, a CAGE, push bars and only God knows what else.
Yes indeed, some of these people spend more on useless equipment they can't legally use than they did buying the car, and they think they're so cool when they're all done installing it. Many of these people like to claim it's for *Demo* purposes . . . as if these people really have a genuine need for all that crap in their former LEO Crown Vic's.
Major face plam when you see one of these

This rings true to me-when I was a kid in the 60s, my Uncle Del was a fireman and without fail, every time we visited, his pager thing would go birsirk and he hadda fly. All he had in his Ford pickup was that teardrop strobe on the dash! These straightup FOOLS who re-apply cop-looking stuff onto their CVs should know that they are no comfort to the general public and even a grandma can pick 'em out of the real deal lol

"Actually, I owned a former unmarked cruiser at one point. My reasons were pretty simple. It was cheap, the holes for antennas were already there, the electrical system could handle the radios, and it was roomy. I did however, draw the line at blinky lights."
That's why I see a lot of ex-cop cars in the suburbs here. Nine times out of ten, they're owned and being driven by young 20-somethings, probably fresh out of college with lots of debt. Reason: they needed a halfway-decent car that they could get cheaply and they know works, and where better to look to than the city surplus department during fleet upgrade time?
I've driven such a rig myself (don't own one) and they're not half-bad cars, actually. (The Vancouver Police Department had an entire fleet of several hundred Crown Vic "Police Interceptor" cars they'd purchased in the mid-'90s and replaced with some other model just a few years ago.) At least my six-foot-eight frame can actually fit comfortably in the cockpit of such a car for a 200-mile drive east down I-84. The spotlights that almost always seem to remain attached to the side-view mirrors are also handy to have when reading the manual during a night-time service session along the shoulder of the road, but that's another story.

Have not owned an ex-police car in many years now (got an ex-cop 1968 Dodge Polara back in the 70’s because it was cheap). But, more than once people have commented on my “cop” car, not understanding that it is not and never was a service vehicle. One of our vehicles is a 2004 Mercury Marauder my wife picked out. Like almost all of our vehicles, from the Miata to the F-350, the Merc has radio gear in it and antennas on it. More than once I have come up behind someone and had them hit the brakes, and the guys at work hate it when I drive that thing. We have over 15 miles of road on the way to work that is used by almost no one but our workers, so they tend to not pay close attention to the speed limits…except when they see a police vehicle.

I KNOW she aint a whacker-just got one at auction for good ol' point A/B ...wish I had my camera.

Damn whackers.
Hell, I had this, with my callsign as my license plate, and still got hassled.

This is why I want a red Suburban. I'd rather be mistaken for an FD battalion chief (minus the light bar and graphics) than a LEO or goverment agent in an unmarked white or black Crown Vic/Caprice/et al or SUV of any kind

jparks and Token-I should say that the Merc Marauder is NOT a whackermobile IMO. It is in fact a neat car in my book. UNLESS you put a pushbar and some kind of spotlights or led's on it. Then you fall into that wannabe category. I wouldn't mind owning a Merc, but they want too much money for what it is because it's kinda rare.

Well, my friend's Crown Vic has the spotlight and a roo bar* across the front, so does that make it a "wannabe" car?
No external aerial, though. He just has a wires-in-the-windshield type.
