Default CrownVic Abuse

Rather than target anyone in particular I thought I'd come in here and rant a little.
What are the real reasons why anyone would actually purchase an x-copcar such as the CrownVic, then re-outfit it with radios and antennas?
I have my own theory, but I'd like to hear other reasons.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; SCH-R720 Build/GINGERBREAD) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

Make pretend? Lol.

Actually, I owned a former unmarked cruiser at one point. My reasons were pretty simple. It was cheap, the holes for antennas were already there, the electrical system could handle the radios, and it was roomy. I did however, draw the line at blinky lights...

I love the ones that get the cool shinie rims and paint jobs and the spoliers. Not trying point fingers at any people but its looks so freaking stupid!!! As for the other well there is no real reason other then ppl are stupid and like to play games I guess and they think they are cool because other people think they are a cop car and they are a cop. Its stupid I think. Just my 2 cents

I bought an ex-CHP car once for several reasons. The performance package you couldn't get on a car lot car, the silicone hose package, the upgraded non-CARB motor and smog, and the superior handling.

The added benefit of a ball mount and upgraded cooling and electrical was a factor too.

Besides, it would do 152mph.

simple they are designed to handle a bank of Motorola radios without the electrical system having a nervous breakdown and they have the room for a console full of them.

And a shotgun, and a full size spare, and a rifle, and a swat bag, and they STILL go 150+mph.

I actually got pulled over (well, I saw the officer and stopped) and was clocked on radar at 152mph.

I didn't get a ticket, either, since both of us in the car were still in uniform (and it was 3am on an empty freeway). We did get to show off the cherry red exhaust headers and the 6 pack carbs.......

You can say its for the radios or full size spare or even the speed but the bottom line is this there is no need for ANYONE to own an ex cop car plain and simple. I have a nice Ford F250 with 2 radios installed. No problems there. Its the 7.3 diesel with lots of power wont do 150 but who the hell needs to go that fast on the road. Go to a race track and buy a race car. I also own a a nice ford explorer with a v6 and two radios installed. Great for off road with its 4x4. Will do 100 but why the hell do you need to go that fast. You don't!!! You people who buy them can say what ever you want but the truth is you want to look like a cop car or your a freaking mexican who loved the ride from the back seat and just knew that this was the car for you and your home boys so you bought it and put some gay *** rims on and go try to look cool on the streets until the real police stop you and give you all a free ride in the back of a real cop car!!! You people make me sick. Get a life a job maybe a hair cut and grow up and buy a real car. You want speed buy a race car or something on those lines. Ex-cop cars should be sold for scrap and crushed. It would sure solve alot of problems

Have you ever thought that maybe those of us who buy them, buy them because of their handling, which you can't get in a street car, the size, and the fact that they are inexpensive, are well maintained, and already have holes drilled in them? After you paint them, remove the spotlights and the cage, they look just like any lot Crown Vic, except for what is under the hood?

I drive an Excursion now. An ex state vehicle. They sold it, with 50k on it because of the new chief. So, I have a rather nice (its got leather) large vehicle with a V10 in it, which I cheerfully added a supercharger to, since I live above 5000 feet.

I retired, turned in my SWAT toys, and now work for someone else again, because I got bored. Not everyone is a whacker, nor do most of us really care what your opinion is.

When you can learn to drive from Bondurant and can do what I do, then you can complain about how fast I drive. Maybe you should live in a state where you never see a car in the opposite direction for a hundred miles at a time, and you'll understand why some people drive fast. Because they CAN.

Not to mention you can beat the car into the ground and it won't leave you stranded. I used to use one at work and I've been driving them for years. As long as you don't do any stupid crap you'll be OK. Hmm, lets see, external oil cooler, larger capacity brakes, larger cooling system, heavy duty tranny and suspension. Yeah. Oh and BTW I did a lot of driving in the past (CY to Mt. Kisco NY 75 miles 1 way) to go to work on an ambulance or flycar for hours. In my opinion only thing better than the Vics is a tahoe or expedition with a police package. And for the record, had a taurus prior to my Vic, 2 weeks after buying it, from a dealer it was in the repair shop for the tranny, and it was just wonderful paying almost $200.00 for a tow from Stamford to my house and taking the train into work. Not to mention, I also own a full sixe Chevy pick up with over $5600.00 worth of work to if that I can't sell for crap because it's an older truck. Yes, I am sure any LEO on this board will agree there are a lot of idiots that will do stupid crap with these cars, but the number of responsible drivers will always out number them. Oh and far as imposters go - lets see in Orange there was a public works supervisor who decided to do stupid crap. Also not to sound like an *** but there are also the fools in explorers and even pickups that do up their vehicles and do stupid crap. So it's not just crown vics. The department I bought my car from also provided me with complete maintainence records for my car too. Just how many dealers will do that? Oh and I carry my grandkids in the car so the rear impact at 75 mph rating is a good thing too.

I would recommend NOT buying anything in the next few years registered in New York, New Jersey or any other Sandy damaged area, however.

A friend of mine bought a Suburban that they KNEW had come out of Katrina. They said it was a great deal, until the electrical system started to fall apart at various connectors and things like the door locks, window regulators, fans, headlight wiring, engine controls, and basically every piece of copper in the vehicle started failing. We turned it into a CAR-B-QUE.

Touched a nerve huh?
You live in a glass house pal. I just checked YOUR threads and found a gaggle of what could be "troll" threads based on your criteria. You aint one to talk.
This is the tavern. this is the rants forum. I posted a rant. My rant is in the title. It is just my opinion. There is good that came out of my troll and that would be the various reasons including yours for owning one.
Too many CVI owners use that car mainly to satiate some power trip they have in their head. Not saying anyone who's in here-but I see it a LOT here around Frisco, and it pisses me off. To me it's a slap to actual cops, that someone would buy a debriefed CVI, re-outfit it with equipment bringing it right back visually to actual police cruiser status, then set there and play cop with it. I see these losers on the freeway pacing cars for miles-locking on a car, changing lanes with them-etc.
In my opinion, ex-police CVI's, which technically are law enforcement equipment, should not be resold as a civilian car for these reasons. Just like that cash for clunkers deal, they oughta be crushed after their useful service-even if they still run like a champ. Because there's too much wiggle room for whackers who are on a power trip and their wannabe pursuit vehicle is the fuel for the fantasy.
But you didn't read this-I'm on IGnore lol
That's all I meant to say in my "troll".

There are enough laws on the books to allow whacker-mobiles to be terminated with prejudice. The problem is, most agencies don't have the interest or manpower to do proactive enforcement. It only becomes a problem for them when the whacker actually starts red-lighting or pulling people over.

There are a LOT of crashed cars that have medium mileage that end up on the auction block. A person I know in a nearby state is today shopping for a 2011 PI that was wrecked and repaired. Where can you get a newish PI for a relatively cheap price? You can't. Besides, I like to see our agencies recoup SOME of the dollars we give them, what better way than selling runout cars?

I DO think, however, that they should be required to be repainted before sold. At least no black and whites, anyway. In Nevada, there is no requirement for white doors on marked cars, so you might get a car with the decals removed in almost any color.
