I'd be more interested in learning how to better organize my channels. I have a Uniden BCD996XT. I have PD,SO,CHP, and other minor local areas of interested programmed into their own systems. I haven't set up any groups.

I have my QKs set up alphabetically by county. san joaquin co is the 39th county. all cities/agencies in that county are assigned QK 39.
example, city of stockton is its own system as QK 39. PD is group 1. FD is group 2.
its an easy way to listen to everything in your area and you can temp lockout whatever you dont want to hear.
thanks how I do it.
state, federal and chp each get their own QK, 97, 98 and 99.

That's exactly how I've been meaning to do mine. I've just been too lazy to a) redo everything and b) get used to the new way of doing it.

I have several separate methods I use for organizing depending on several factors. The first factor is which scanner (bank oriented with 10 banks, or object oriented with 20 lists for example). The second factor is use; is this for local use or will I be going someplace. Lastly is whether or not I have a specific "focus". For example I may be attending an event which will be using some specific frequencies I want to monitor.

I understand that. I have each PD set to it's own system and within that system I have one group and within that group is all frequencies for that agency. I have systems 1-6 set up with the agencies in my county. 1-4 is PD. 5 is all school police. 6 is CHP. 7 is miscellaneous like Amador, Coco, Stan. 8 is AMR and Fire for Stockton. Doesn't seem to effective I take it. I can see having San Joaquin County on one system and group 1 is SPD, 2 is SJSO, and 3 is Schools, would that be better used?

Still figuring if i'll be able to make it. If I do come I will have both a pro-106 and a Uniden BCD996XT. Primary help would be getting the freqs in an orderly fashion. I.E what KMA and I was talking about a few posts up.

I had a good time sitting and listening. I also enjoyed getting to meet you guys AND gals. I also was able to get my serial cable working. Thanks to the helpful hints I found out the cable I got from RS was from Gigaware. With a bit of googling I was able to download the driver for the cable. I have FreeScan recognizing my BCD996XT and am ready to rock and roll.
Thanks again guys!!!.........AND gals!
