As for what I heard for the County system was of that 15MHz shift, before mentioned, and that would occur next month or so.

I dunno if the radios can be reprogrammed remotely (OTAR is it called?), but haven't heard anything about bringing the radios in for reprogramming.

If it happens soon, it'll either be for very few radios, or they have a "super-secret" plan for late-night works. I guess if they don't change any of the patrol talkgroups, or the major tacs, it probably won't affect us.

I haven't heard any updates on timeline lately - I think April may be "early" for any digital changes, especially for rebanding.

I also don't think they do remote programming for the radios, I've never had any of my portables or consoles "automatically" change. All of them required new software or plug-in programming.

Since this afternoon I hear an open carrier with FailSoft tones on the following freqs.

868.2375
868.4375
868.9375

The active control channel was on 868.5375, but now it's 868.7375 at midnight

I have no idea what this means, or what "they" are doing, but it's different.

I have 868.7375 as a County TRS frequency running as a CC, and 868.9375 (also a County) and 868.2375 (also County) in failsoft. What the heck?

Add 868.4375 (County) in failsoft. Still running 868.7375 as a CC. And I just heard Ant moving all the South units to channel 1 for the 1 channel ops. Why is half this system running failsoft, with a solid CC? Damn, we're talking about the County system in a City thread. Oops.

Treport is running on 868.7375 (which is running 4328), with logging. I'm no good with it, but can provide it if anyone gets really curious. It's pretty huge by now, though, from previous sessions.

Hmm, Treport is showing only channels 13-27 being used right now. Maybe late night experimentation on the County system? Might want to listen in for other active CCs.

866.4375 has an open carrier, but talkgroup audio came up on it, and then dropped back off, but the carrier stayed open.

Yeah I've morphed this into a City / County thread...

New control channel heard just now 2055hrs
It's going from control channel to failsoft, back to control channel

Sac County System ( WNYR751 )
Control Channel 868.9375
SYSTEM ID ( sysid ) C116h-0002

After the control channel stops, I hear failsoft tones on these 3 channels again.
868.2375
868.4375
868.9375

Wish I had another discrim tapped radio to run Treport on the new CC. I'm running it on the City digital right now...never seen a whole screen of "Receiver Interface Board Dev Malfunc".

Has there been traffic, affiliations, or talkgroups on the new CC you found?

Thumbs up

So wait...

868.8250 (City frequency) is showing as C116 site 1
868.9375 (County frequency) is showing as C116 site 2

So it looks like the beginning of the SmartZone? And I know someone posted this was going to happen, but I can't give him props.

I feel that we should keep this thread as a City & County update as close to real time. What do you fellow Sacramento Public Safety monitors think?

I am just wondering how the local media is going to handle this when their scanners are suddenly silent after this change.

All I'm hearing is intermittent control channel, then goes into failsoft ( on all those previously listed freq ) then goes back to control channel on 868.9375. It's very apparent it's in some sort of test mode or seriously malfunctioned HA! I wish I was up to speed on the technical aspects of putting a new system online, but I'm just a mere user of the system.

( side note )
I have AOR-8200 but I need to buy a PC cable for it which is like $125.00 !! I " THINK " it's discrim-tap capable - I would really like to monitor the control channel myself with the appropriate program.

Depends which talk groups become digital. Regardless, I think media types won't have a problem dishing out the bucks for new scanners. Also, some media outlets have Motorola portables that were purchased and programmed ( with authorization ) to monitor public safety agencies on the trunked system(s)

I HIGHLY doubt that SPD or SSD will leave the media outlets in the dark. There is a fine line of friendship and "distrust" between law enforcement and the media.

I'm sure Lou will hand the new portables out to the Bee reporters personally! HA! Not trying to jack the thread, but was laughing pretty good over that one.

Thanks for the input. I really love this site. Even though I have scanned for years, there is always something new to learn.

As for the friendship and distrust, that is in a lesser extent, the same for the fire service.

Default are there any plans to Encrypted

if you look at the tren across the county with new P25 system
many pd are Encrypting the Dective channel and as a genral
most fire operation and beat stuff are staying in the clear
do you hear any about any of this with this system.

I ran into Terry Cox of Fox 40 News at the UCD Med Center Emergency area and she was carrying a BC245XLT.

As far as I heard, looking at another forum on RR, that Motorola portables radios could not be re-configured to only monitor Public Safety traffic and cut the tranmission part out.

I could be wrong, though. I am not up to par in that part of the radio system.

Nobody really knows yet....well, at least that will post here. We expect to have some encryption, but at this point it's not really worth worrying about, since nothing can be done anyways. But, yes, there are rumors of selective encryption.

Default more on encrypted

that kind of fall in line with the rest of the county
most places are encryping the dark op channels and the fire and med stuff is in the clear.

Being in the Public Safety world and all the madness that is going on in the world, I can see why those areas are being encrypted.

I'm kinda hoping for a few digital talkgroups...it sure sounds a lot better when you're listening. But then again, kinda sucks for those who can't listen.
