FM Sats to Work with Minimal Equipment

We have SO-50 and the ISS up there now ... coming soon (hopefully in October, 2015) we will have FOX-1A. It promises to be EASIER to work than SO-50 - since its downlink will be on 2M, and uplink on 440. That should provide us with at least 6db INCREASE in reception signal - making DIY and homebrew handheld antennas VERY usable!

And there's EO-80, too. Originally a commercial bird, but if all goes well when they are through with its commercial mission, they will flip it to an amateur pair of freqs for us to work! ALSO 2M down and 440 up.

This sounds good. Any tentative timing for FOX-1A to go live for amateurs?

It took about a month to get AO-51 up and running after launch ... so I would expect about the same for FOX-1A. Tentative launch October 8, 2015 from Vandenberg.

Can't wait until Fox-1a goes up,worked AO-51 and AO-27 many time it was a lot of fun hope to hear you guys on the ham sat's soon ..............

Thank you Clint. Working satellites is another interesting aspect of the hobby. Even the ISS with a little blast of APRS, or capturing a SSTV image or two on a pass when they're pushing is quite fun. It never gets old.

FOX-1A during Thanksgiving would be nice.
