This video is from about 4 yrs ago and I was traveling near São Paulo, Brazil with my friend, a Brazilian amateur. I asked him if he ever heard about pirates using US satellites and he smiled and tuned them in on 255.55MHz with his Icom dual ham band radio while we were driving.
He listens to them often when driving to work and he also translated some of the traffic, which was boring CB type chit chat. I was very surprised how well the signals came in on his short dual band amateur antenna on the car. It was very cool hearing the pirates while in Brazil.
