ID Tracker II operation

Hi All..I am using the ID TrackerII V1.17.1 and had a question about it. In the description window all the information is coming up as unidentified? So I download and setup the ID Import program and imported from RadioReference the information for Pinellas County Florida. It imported all the information as it showed in the box. But when I run ID Tracker they all show as Unidentified. How to I get this information from RadioReference to show up in the program? What am I doing wrong or not doing? Thanks..Keithmj

Did you get the web plugin as well? That's a seperate download, if memory serves me

If you mean that in the main screen (as you are scanning and tracking) they show up as unidentified then you have not marked them as identified. This is done becuase the main purpose of the software is record/log unidentified TG's or conventional frequencies as you scan them. If you shut down the tracking you can go to the particular system and then mark all the ones you know as ID'd. The unidentifed/identifed is only a flag for the purpose of filtering what you log, record, or ignore.

There is a seperate program on his site that will import from rr database the id's for you into idtracker.

Yes, I am aware of that, but I don't believe they mark the imported ID's as "Identified". The "Identified" and "Priority" flag names are left overs from when the program was first written. They could easily be renamed something else right now as the names are really misleading now.

Thanks, I never used the program, I thought once you imported id's and it came up, it would show the id name, and the only one's that would show up unidentified are the ones not in the list. I learned something new today!

Been looking for Pinellas ID on ID Search with my 396. It seems like there are a lot of IDs out there. Are these somewhere on Radioreference? Left out a about a hundred public works IDs i can't identify. Is there a software that tracks new IDs better?

Hi Thanks for the replies..I imported the imformation from ReadioReference with the IDImport software but they don't show up anywhere that I can find. I figured that once I did import them, then the ones imported would show up as identified but they are not doing that. I deleted the program completely and did a reinstall of both programs thinking that maybe it was conflicting with the older stuff but it made no difference..Lot of good ideas that everyone brought out in their posts but I at least thought that it would mark as identified the ones that I imported. So my question would be..Why have an ID importer if it doesn't do anything? Guess I could go thru it manually and look at the list and mark them off one at a time, unless something is still wrong? Kayleesdad ask a good question that I was wondering about also but I'll keep playing with the program..Thanks and Cheers..Keithmj

Forgot to say that I stopped the program, right clicked and opened System Edit and tried to import the info and nothing happened either..:-(

The purpose of the "import" feature is the same as it is in any software, to provide you with the name of a known talk group or frequency. Now, separate that from the purpose of the program; the program was designed to allow you to monitor a TRS or conventional set of frequencies and both record and log activity on those channels. The identify and priority flags are just filters used in the program to allow you to choose to ignore "identified" (note I did not say named) channels, or in the case of "priority" to allow you to record/log activity on a already "identified" channel. Please don't confuse the flag "identified" with the fact that they are named. If you did not import the names, you could still name a TG (or frequency) with what you thought it was and continue to record/log it until you were sure what the entity was that you were monitoring; indeed the program does this itself by calling a channel "Unidentified" the very first time it finds it unless you have already imported it, then it calls it that imported name. In reference to IDTracker II, when you hook it up to the scanner and scan a TRS or conventional system, the program actually uses the name you have recorded in the alpha tag as the name on new (to the program) channels, but they still have the "identified" flag not set. If you marked it as "identified" and you were just recording/logging unidentified channels, it would stop recording/logging it. This is all up to you; you have to make the decisions of what you want the program to do and how you set the internal flags.

As for marking them one at a time, AFAIK you can still mark entire sets identified or unidentified by selecting all of the channels in the edit screen, appropriately choosing the check boxes and pressing the <Set All> button.

David (the author) does hang out here and I am surprised that he has not commented yet, perhaps life is intruding on the important things.

Hi keithmj I had the same problem. But after import from rr after you go to edit in id tracker a couple of times it willl be there. And also the trick was to save the file correctly i.e. id trackerII folder where the program runs from and I think if memory serves right as word pad.hope this helps Mike also give all the details as in the database very cool and I use it daily Oh and no need to check anything info comes up as it stops on talkgroup etc.

Hi..The import that I did from RadioReference never did show up no matter what I did. So I have just been putting them in manually by typing them in. I tried everything that was suggested but it still didn't import. Also there is a way to save the log file, which I did save but I can't find a way to open it up again in the program? I want to clear it and log another system but don't want to lose the info I have logged already. I have found alot of IDs also that show up nowhere...Cheers..Keithmj

Log files are individual files by system. They are by system name as you have them in the radio, so as long as you don't use the same system name, you will not interfere with previously saved information. BTW, log files (unless you erase them) are just added to, not overwritten.
