Default RS 232 Isolation from Scanner to Computer

Wondering if anyone uses some type of isolation from their scanner to their computer for the RS232 link? For like static, ect... I know they recommend it on the audio side to the computer, so as not to zap your sound card.

Is it needed?

Thanks,
Chad

Not needed in either case.

Why is it not needed on the audio side? Most sound cards have some type of protection?
