Default Having trouble sending files in email to other users

I have been sending frequency files to other users and they are saying that they have not been able to open it in win500. I am using vista, i'm not sure what they are using, but does anybody have any ideas?

There's not enough information here to make a determination. Did you zip (compress) the files and not tell the intended receiver? What kind of files did you attempt to send? Did the recipient try to use the explorer uncompress function to extract the file? (it's been known to happen that doing so can corrupt the file. Far better to use an external program such as WinZip). What message in Win500 giving? When is it occurring - when it tries to open, or load the file?

More information needed 73 Mike

Besides what Mike mentioned, it may not be entirely the way you're sending the file at all. It could also be the way your recipients' email program(s) handle attachment. AOL & Outlook (depending on the security setting) may block saving attachments, or change what's saved from it's original format.

And, yes, more information needed, what error code shows up, also what's the file size of what they 'save' versus the size of the attachment you sent.

No, i did not compress the file. I just sent the file in the native win500 format. I think its .500. It said that windows did not recognize the file. Other than that, i don't know much. I will ask and try to find out.

Most likely they are not using Win500 then as it isn't registered with Windows and windows can only find files if they are registered in the registry.

As ka3jjz else mentioned, you might want to zip (or RAR or 7z). The files are most likely small and will not benifit from compression, but it would pack the file(s) into one file.

A trick to sending attachments via email where the server/client/filter will either delete or change the file(s) (this includes zip attachments that might get stripped out due to filter rules) is to change the file extension by either removing it or changing it to something else like ".doc"

Example: "file.zip" would be just "file" or "file.doc"

After doing the above, attach the file in an email and send it. You will need to explain to the recipient, that they will need to change or add the original extension (and also have their computer set to see extensions). If you compress the file, the recipient will need an app (either same or similar) to open and extract the file(s). I like WinRAR and 7Zip (my new favorite). There are others like WinZip (the original) and Zip Central. In my opinion, 7Zip is the best and is free. WinRAR and WinZip have demo versions that don't really expire. Zip Central works but it kinda crappy.
