Default ScanControl Problems...??

Having a weird problem today with ScanControl, i just have the free demo version, i only have two banks programmed anyway so need for anything more. The scanner is a BC785D.

Here is the problem...

I updated some of the frequencies on bank 1, conventional. I updated some of the scanlist entries on bank 2, trunking.

I programmed all the changes to the scanner, it showed it writing to the scanner and all was well, or so i thought.

About an hour later i noticed that things still were not right. So i started ScanControl back up and read from the radio, all the changes were lost. So i made all the changes again, programmed to the radio, and even saved the file like three times. Closed ScanControl, opened it again, loaded the saved file, it shows the changes. Ok, figured i had it this time.

A little while later i noticed that the scanner wasn't right yet again. Opened ScanControl, checked the saved version and it was right, loaded everything from the radio and it wasn't.

Finally i had to clear the entire memory of the radio, clear ScanControl, load the file with the correct changes, and program again. Now its right.

Just as an experiment i decided to go in there and make a quick changed, i deleted a channel on bank 1 and then told it to program to the radio. After it said it was done and complete i checked the radio manually and what ya know, that channel is still there.

So i loaded up ARC250, which i have the licensed Pro version, read the contents of the radio, saved it for a new backup, deleted that channel again and wrote to the radio, checked the radio after it was done and the channel was indeed gone.

Ok i thought, ScanControl can read the radio but for some reason it says its writing, and shows that it did, but its actually not. So i fired up ScanControl again, loaded my saved file, and wrote that bank back to the radio again, so that it should restore that channel i deleted. Guess what, it didn't.

I'm lost at this point, ScanControl will no longer write to the radio, but it will indeed read from it just fine. And ARC250 can read and write to the radio. So the radio is working fine.

I also noticed that ARC250 doesn't show the Scanlist tags correctly when i read bank 2, but ScanControl does, thats a whole other subject and i won't go into that further here other then mentioning it, from what i have read on the forums ARC250 is screwed up when it comes to the Scanlist tags for some reason.

Here's where I'd go with this kind of issue ...

Ken D. is the author of the software, and is frequently found here

Sounds too wierd! 73 Mike

I will go over there and have a look, and maybe post on this too.

I'm going to uninstall and reinstall ScanControl and see if that helps.

I did try one more thing. I went to bank 3 and threw in some random frequencies and wrote to the radio, it worked!!

But, if i read what is in the radio, make changes such as deleting a channel, and then write to the radio it just ignores those changes. Its almost as if i can write info to the radio but i can't delete channels or data on the radio with ScanControl.

I let it run for a while and then i fired up ScanControl again and i read bank 3, the frequencie were there, i deleted them and told it to write the changes to the radio, it goes through the process like its writing to the radio and if i watch the radio it shows it programming each channel to all zero's. But after the write cycle is done i can scroll through bank 3 and guess what, they are still there!!

So again i fired up ARC250 and read bank 3, deleted the half dozen channels i put in, wrote to the radio and then turned to the radio and scrolled through, gone!

So at this time i have it narrowed down that ScanControl will put in new data, but it won't overwrite existing data or delete data.
