Default Programming Pro-2018 w/computer

I have been fooling around with scancat trying to program my Pro-2018. Awhile back I bought the 20-049 black cable. I also have the white and usb cable.

On the black cable I have 2 of them 20-049, I have 2 Pro-2018's and have tried 2 computers. I can get neither of them to read or program via compute.

I am beginning to think that even though the 20-049 package reads it will work it does not, I think I need the 20-048 cable.

Anyone else get this to work! I have tried to do a search and see if the same issue is out their but nothing.....

There is a Scancat Yahoo group where Jim Springer (the creator of that awful program) can be found. Why you would want to program such an old scanner, with limited functionality in any case, with software is beyond me, but I'd give that a shot if no one jumps in here. 73 Mike

[edit] Hopefully you aren't using the Mr. Scanner (or whatever it's called these days) data files to program. That data is nothing more than a formatted FCC data dump, and at least in Maryland's case, is as old as the hills. The RR database is way better.

Our area does not do trunking so the Pro-2018 suits my grandmothers needs. I asked Jim he was not sure, he thought I needed the 20-048 cable. he said even though the 20-049 reads on the package it does work. He did not think it did. he said I should find a 048 black cable.

I just posted to see if anyone else had the same issue and what their fix was. Nope the only software I use is scancat right now it does what I need it to do for my Pro-2054.

Just to clarify the Radio Shack 20-048 / 20-049 cable situation in case someone else needs the information:

rafdav, note that in the link you gave it is stated that “this cable and software is available as catalog number 20-048”.

The Radio Shack item 20-048 was a “kit” that contained a cable and a software CD.

The Radio Shack item 20-049 was a cable only.

The exact same cable was in each package.
