Many times folks will run into a wall trying to program their scanners. Unfortunately there have been too many messages that don't say much, and that just slows the process down. Sometimes it's as simple as changing a parameter, but for those times where it's not obvious, some information is going to be required;
- What system are you trying to program? Go to the top blue toolbar under the logo and click on
DATABASE. Supply the URL of the system.
- What software are you using? If you are trying to program one of the Uniden DMA scanners, there is freeware available (some versions of the UASD, FreeScan and BCTool). Using the UASD for these scanners makes the resulting file importable into just about any of the better programs. The UASD is available from the Uniden website (you need to register your scanner there), and the links for FreeScan and BCTool can be found
here . While there isn't any freeware (yet) for the GRE/RS object oriented scanners, the most popular packages (ARC500, PSREdit500 and Win500) are all linked from
here
- If you are trying to program manually, it might be necessary to use a program to dump the contents to a file so others can see what was done.
- In either case, you will need to zip (compress) the file so it can be attached to a message. While WinZip is the widely acknowledged champ, there are many other zip utilities out there, some freeware as well.
- Be as specific as you can when describing the problem.
Supplying these items will get you an answer much quicker than 'I cant figure out how to program this thing'. 73 Mike
