Win500 Serial Port Question

I just bought a new Acer "mini" lap-top and am having problems connecting Win500 to my PSR500. I keep getting an error message saying that "No PSR-500/ 600 Found".

There is also no LED activity on my serial cable. I have 3 USB ports on my computer and have tried them all. Under the Configuration Menu, the program is unable to find any serial ports. The drop down box that list the com port numbers is empty on this computer.

Any ideas? What should I do next?

have you loaded the driver for the cable onto your laptop?

Here are the release notes from Win500 v. 1.74:

"Version 1.74 2009.01.24 18:27 (GMT -0800)

Removed all "COM port" nonsense from the program. Win500 now automatically finds a single connected USB-Scanner Programming Cable, and will prompt you to choose between cables if you have more than one connected (with the option to remember which cable was selected).

I don't know what version of Win500 you are running (I think it's now at 1.80) but Don's change mentioned in the release notes above works flawlessly for me.

Uhm... No... Can you provide instructions? I'll see if I can figure it out in the meantime.

Driver is now downloaded and I'm running win500 without any problems. Thanks guys for the solution!

Don's Win500 v01.74 (and later versions) makes the connection of the USB-Scanner Programming Cable to the GRE PSR500/PSR600 & Radio Shack Pr0-106/Pro-197 pretty much a mindless operation.

Yeah, I'm not sure what happened with mine. I installed win500 v1.8 and it wasn't working. I downloaded the driver as suggested and as he stated in the program and it works fine now.
