Default ProScan software...stupid question time

Okay, I thought I'd give ProScan a go, just to see how it works.

I must say that I'm impressed with how the computer controlled scanning portion works, along with the logging and recording.

However, and this is where the stupid question comes into play; I can't for the life of me figure out how to program my scanner using the program. So, does it just do control / log / record or can it program my 346XT as well? It appears that every tab I click on that all the options are "grayed out." When I try to import from RR, it tells me that a database file must be open, yet when I click on 'new' under database, it takes me to the ProScan folder, and I have no idea which file to open.

The online manual I'm taken to when I click on 'help' doesn't help me too much. Maybe it's because it's only 5:50 in the morning and I'm still half asleep (or maybe I'm just brain dead, I don't know LOL).

Any help / info to get me going in the right dorection will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

SSSG

Click on New like you say, it will take you to the Pro-Scan folder, as you say, then in the "File Name" line of the "New Proscan Database File" window just type whatever you want to name the file. It will generate a new file with that name and the greyed out stuff will become available.

D'OH!!

Well, that's so simple even a caveman can do it.

I've set up a few test files and I think I'm getting the hang of it now.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

There is also a link under the Help drop-down to the Proscan Support Page. Log onto that and sign up. Bob Aune is there all the time and responds pretty fast most of the time to help requests. He is also pretty good with responses on regular email to issues. Well supported program actually.

I'm glad you got it to work and I appreciate davidmc36 for the assistance.

Next version will automatically prompt for scanner type, new database, and comm. port settings when program is used for the first time but may not have helped in this case since you found the <Database - New> menu item.

No skin in the software game here but I will say that I really like the ProScan interface - even though it took me a short bit to get used to all the tabs. Once I had poked around, I found I really liked the organization and control, and it's been rock steady with my 396XT.
