Default Win96 won't open.

Hello!

Anybody know what's happening with Win96? I purchased the program a few years ago and now it won't open. It says I need a registration key. I've emailed the owner of the program many, many times and he has never replied.

You have to purchase a registration key.

Then enter your registration information and you should be good to go.

The registration number that I paid for doesn't work and it says on the guy's website that it won't work, but if you email him he will send you a new one. I've emailed him and he hasn't replied.

Wow sorry for trying to help, I thought maybe just going over the basics first might help. Since you already know the answer to your question maybe you should try contacting Don in a private message and see if he can provide you with a registration key that will work. Win9x Temporary Keys PRO-96 Software - Win96 - Data Management Software for the RadioShack PRO-96 and PRO-2096 Digital Trunking Scanners try reading through both of those and see if you can get a little more help in there. It also might help to upgrade to the newest version if Win96 if you don't have it already.

I'm glad you worked it out.

FYI, programming software issues need to be posted to the scanner programming software forum (where I've moved it). It gets the best visibility, especially by Don, when you post them to the designated forum.

Over the years since the copy protection scheme was changed (2004) I am sure Don has received many requests for the "new" key from people who have never owned the software to begin with. I do know that Don has stated here in the forums that he no longer has records from over 5 years ago as to who had copies. I would suspect that, if by chance you still had a copy of the email sent to all registered users on or about 3/1/2004 and you provided it to Don he probably comply with your request. I might add that if you are sending email to the address supplied by the link (NewWin96Key@...), he probably is ignoring that altogether after 5 years, if you are sending it to the regular address (Don@...) I am sure you will eventually get a response.

Ah, thanks, Lou. That makes sense. I did indeed PAY for the program the first time and I have been writing to the Newwink96key address on his website because that's what it says to do. It also says that he has been slow in getting back to people but that he evenutally would reply, so I didn't want to be a pain and write to him at another address.

Well, I emailed him and he never replied. No surprise there. Funny, he has no problem taking people's money.
