Default Problem with WIN500 Ver 1.84 Just Released

I just downloaded the newest versions of WIN500 (Ver 1.84), unzipped the files to my WIN500 file and now I cannot open the WIN500 application. I keep getting the following warning saying the .dll file is missing or corrupted (see illustration).

Name: DLL File Problem.jpg
Views: 452
Size: 13.3 KB

I actually downloaded the file twice in order to try again. The first time I skipped the ini file, but not the second time. Same results.

Did I do something wrong? ...or does this version need to wait until after the 1st in order to work?

Running Windows XP Pro SP3.

You're absolutely sure the RRLib.DLL file is in the same directory as Win500.EXE?

If so, do you have Microsoft's ".NET 1.1" installed? I didn't include it, or mention it on the web site, because it's almost inconceivable that any current PC doesn't already have it installed.

That thread was "closed" a while ago, and cannot address the O.P.'s problem (since it was closed about 5 weeks before "RRLib.dll", the file mentioned by the O.P., was included in the Win500 release).

Yes, the DLL file and the EXE file are in the same directory as before. As far as .NET 1.1, I'm not sure how to check that, but I have not made any changes to my machine. Unless a Microsoft update removed it, I have it.

I have never had any trouble with any of the previous updates so this one makes no sense to me.

You can get .NET 1.1 from Microsoft, and see if that helps:
Get the .NET Framework 1.1
You'd want the "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable".

You may be able to get the "latest/greatest" version of .NET (3.5), and it may work. (I don't know, as I don't have any machines that don't have 1.1 installed).

I went back to the Web site and downloaded the DLL file and continue to get the same pop-up.

Not sure if it's related to the original post, but I get this error:
Code:
Cannot find import; DLL may be missing, corrupt, or wrong version
File "MSVCR71.dll", error 126
I unzipped the files into my current Win500 folder then tried into a new folder to see if it helped.
Running Windows 7 64 bit.

I think he was referring to the closed Win500 thread. I've removed that reference from my web site, replacing it with a mention of the RR "software forum".

It's related.

The new RRLib.DLL was built with a newer version of tools, and requires newer system files (e.g. .NET 1.1, MSVCR71).

You can get Microsoft's MSVCR71.dll here.

Okay, I downloaded the .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable and that fixed the problem. I'm once again a happy camper.

Thanks, Don, for your IMMEDIATE help, and the rest of you for your suggestions.

Fixed, but that link pointed at msvcP71.dll, I noticed after getting the error again. If anyone else has the problem this is the file that fixed it for me.

Thanks Don!

Okay, one more question while I have almost everyone's attention. Do I understand correctly that after the 1st, previous versions of the WIN software WILL NOT work when it comes to importing from the RR Database?

It depends on if/when Lindsay actually shuts down the "REST-based" services, but I'd expect it to happen by 01 August.

For what it's worth...

I had no .NET stuff on my computer (running XP Home Edition) so I downloaded/installed/updated version 3.5. WIN500 appears to work just fine, at least as far as it can go until the switch is thrown on the RR database. WIN500 would log in to the database, and it let me get as far as selecting what I wanted to download, but then it puked and froze up, forcing a computer reboot. I may have been able to log out and log back in to Windows but I chose to restart.

I did not have Windows Net installed on my XP because of problems with updates I had in the past.
Once something works I try to leave it alone.

I will run the Service Packs and see what happens.

Ignore my other thread, Don. I copied the MSVCR71.dll into my win500 directory and that fixed my issue with 1.84 as well, same as ab2ms. I too am on Win7 64-bit....

I'm getting the same Error 126 everytime I try to open Win500 and Win97. I've done the stuff outlined above and no luck. Any ideas on what to do? This has only occured since I updated them this morning.
