Smile BcTool

Of all the software out there I had the best luck using BcTool and Radio Reference together to program my BCT-15. Now that they don't work together is BcTool totally useless? That's to bad I could load my scanner fast and had no problems after I got it figured out. The funny thing is I rather load my pro-160's and my pro-162 by hand. I guess it's time to get a new software. Any suggestions on a good one. Thanks for your time..............

You can still use bctool to manage what is already in your scanner or any backups that you have.

You may want to try Freescan.

Apparently the author is doing a total rewrite of bctool which will work again with the database. No idea on timeframes. Oh how I wish he hung out here instead of that yahoo group.

Yeah I've heard that excuse too but it makes little sense to me. Why not at least do bug fixes and repairs (like fixing the RR link) for the existing user base while doing the rewrite? I'm thinking he lost his source code in a hard drive failure or something and is forced to do a rewrite and can't do updates, that's about the only thing that makes sense to me. Pity, I liked it so much I sent him a donation for the program just two weeks before the RR link crapped out and now I am pretty bummed.

I liked bctool and used it from the very beginning. Problem is, time stands still for nobody and freescan has long passed it by.Yes you can download using freescan and backup and sort using bctool, but why bother. Freescan is now the best freeware program for Uniden scanners, and is updated regularly.

bctool works great for me. I also sent him $50 quite a while back and never regretted it. The recording function works flawlessly and I have not experienced problems with updating my 996 or bct15 in the later versions. I hope he makes a comeback but I refuse to heap any hate on the guy. I still use the software regularly. I am sure Freescan is nice as well. Developing free software is a thankless endeavour.
