Default Question about signing in to win500 for web download

I just sat down to create a file for an upcoming trip. Went to sign in for web download and got the following message:

XML error detected: no element found

near:

^

while requesting URL:
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/xml1.1/?ol=1

I am not sure what it means or more importantly how to correct it.

Thanks in advance for your assistance

I have been through this exercise and it does not appear that the download is coming through. I am not seeing the latest version notes in my download. Do I need to delete the previous version? I did read through the notes. Thanks for your input

I had the same problem when I installed the latest release over top a previous release. it was my fault because I didn't overwrite all files for some reason. At any rate, simply installing a second copy (as a test) in a fresh directory and then running Win500.exe from that directory should show good results. If that works, then just simply copy the contents from that new directory over top of those in your original directory and you should be fine.

Thanks, I tried installing a second copy and even tried re-naming the directory but it still installs it over top of the original and now has bugs than cannot be resolved. Very frustrating to say the least.

Not sure what you mean by "it installs it over top of the original"
There is no install, it's just a few zipped up files, you can extract them into any directory you want.

A safe way to do upgrades is rename the existing folder to something like oldwin500
Create a new empy c:\win500 folder, or whatever you normally use.
Drop all of the new files into the new folder,
Copy the win500.ini from the oldwin500 to the new folder.
Test.

If anything doesn't work, just rename or delete the new folder, and rename the old folder, and you're back where you were.

I did as you suggested and renamed the files. When I extracted the "new" files I still got the same error that something could not be resolved, there was a choice to de-bug the file which I took and it did not yield anything. I would guess at this point I should attempt to delete the whole thing and try to start over. Any other suggestions?

Once again thanks for your input.

If you post the exact error message, hopefully we can help figure it out.

the error reads as follows:

WIN500_COM.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled

Process id=0x540 (1344), Thread id=0xf04 (3844).

Click to OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.

note, when I click cancel it leaves a ghost image of the above message on the screen. I must reboot to clear it.

Thank you for your help

Have you tried simply deleting the entire Win500 download and then downloading and installing the new version?

If you get the solution, I would apreciate it if you could post it here. I had similar problems with Win96 and Win97. I just kept on trying different things until it worked for them. It took several days to get it right. Unfortunately I didn't take notes. I haven't tried Win500 yet so would appreciate the information.

I have tried to delete and reinstall the entire program but cannot seem to delete it entirely. After 3 attempts to delete and reinstall with the same corruption, I borrowed my daughters computer and downloaded it there with a clean copy. Not sure how to rectify the situation with my main computer. It does seem like we are nopt the only ones encountering a problem. If I find out anyhthing I will post the results.
